August 2000 MTCV Itinerary
Sunday 6th Noojee Tool Shed Counter Lunch Tim Walker leading 9.30 am KBCP, 10.30 am Yarra Glen
The Tool Shed is associated with a licensed restaurant. The Shed caters for the more casual customer and has a large open fire, good counter meals, a pool table, two sit-on motorcycle arcade style video games, two similar rally video games, and plenty of atmosphere. A phone call confirmed my suspicions: the route will include the Black Spur and the Reefton Spur with a splash of fuel, a splash of the boots and a bite to eat at Warburton. We will then proceed to Noojee via the Powelltown Road. Everyone ought to be in the groove by then and it could be a quick trip. The lunch destination is so attractive we expect to stay there a couple of hours, despite the ride not being designated as short. Break-up at Yarra Junction, back along the Powelltown Road. Expect around 200 fun km for the day.
Sat. 12th Dirt Ride Marysville Paul Tallents leading
10.30 am Marginal Rd, Melba Highway
Paul is going out this weekend to pre-ride it with Lyn Duncan and Eddy. The pick-up point is just past Gordons Bridge on the Melba Highway. Due to the recent heavy snow falls, there are an enormous number of trees down, blocking many tracks. This is a full-on dirt bike ride on tracks, as distinct from the recent Eildon Ride which was mainly on dirt roads, albeit 4WD. The route will pick up Major Road on the way to Buxton Pub for lunch. Meet them at 1 pm. Then back to Marysville and the cars. Should be a fun day. Expect plenty of mud and bog holes. A saw might be handy!
Sunday 13th Fort Nepean (short ride) Darren Hosking leading
10.30 am Hallam
At the end of the Mornington Peninsula, Fort Nepean is reached via a short shuttle bus ride from the kiosk/ticket office area. There are a couple of drop offs along the route. We normally stop at the second last one and walk to the last one, checking out the amazing bunkers and artillery placements en-route. It costs to get in. The scenery alone is worth it. Expect around 180 km for the day.
Thurs. 17th Social Sip, 7 pm Blackburn Hotel, 111 Whitehorse Road Blackburn
Sunday 20th Economy Ride, Castlemaine Stuart Forster leading
9.30 am KBCP, 10.30 am Whittlesea
Fill up, ride till morning tea, fill up again. The person that puts the least fuel in their tank wins. Easy. A buddy system may be employed to ensure everyone fills to the same point. To ensure the safety of the ride, the rear rider may enforce a slow riding penalty. Something like: if he passes you, you are out. Only members can win the $50 prize. Pretty serious stuff, but usually great fun. Expect about 300 km for the day.
Sunday 27th Dumbalk (Gippsland) Ben Warden leading
9.30 am KBCP, 10.30 am Yarra Glen
You get off your bike and you are bursting to tell someone something. How good the road was, how fast, how close, who did what. This is one of those rides. It is not recommended for less experienced riders due to the fatigue factor. I expect perfect weather, no gravel, and endless smooth sweepers. Be there. Expect around 450 fun packed kms.

Sunday 3rd Mornington Peninsula (short ride) John Murphy leading
10.15 am Hallam
Lots of interesting roads in and around Arthurs Seat and Red Hill including Boneo Road along the spectacular coast line and maybe a trip through the Flinders Golf Course. Will they be jumping from the hang glider ramp? These and other mysteries will be unravelled on the ride. Join John on his Team Green ZRX1100 for his first time lead. Expect around 200 km home to home at a leisurely pace.
