After a week of 30 degree C temperatures, Sunday arrives with rain. Ah - must be Ian's Thompson Dam run. Local farmers are requesting that Ian has this run every two weeks as they need the rain. Having six more riders this time pleases the leader no end. We are told that Ben has rung to say that his bike won't start - You have to get out of your nice warm bed and turn the key if you really want it to start.
Taking to the wet roads we travelled via Pakenham, Bunyip, Drouin, Ellinbank, Yarragon to Moe were we stopped outside the bakery for morning tea. Trevor and I compared bike computer averages etc He disapproved of my higher indicated top speed, the other readings were much the same.
The run to Thompson Dam was treated with respect as the roads were quite wet. Ian, after saying that riders could overtake him, wasn't seen until the wall. Jack, at this stage, took over rear rider duties. We next went to Rawson to refuel. Phil, taking a look at the price of unleaded petrol, fell over, bike and all. Luckily the bike was OK. Pity about the bowser glass as Phil put his shoulder through it on his way down.
As the road to Walhalla was likely to be not much fun in the wet it was decided to leave that part to Walhalla III. The return trip was through Willow Grove to Trafalgar. The roads were now starting to dry out and riding enjoyment increased. We broke up at Trafalgar, the others taking the highway, but I finished off the day going home through Thorpdale, Mirboo North, Leongatha, and Korumburra on dry roads. That put a smile on my face after the wet start.
