November 2002                    MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 10th     Warragul (short ride)                                                                Greg Hales leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Greg will lead us on his trusty TL1000S for a short, one stop ride to Warragul. From Yarra Glen we’ll head to Healesville and across to Yarra Junction and Powelltown, then up the hill and on to Neerim South and Warragul for lunch after some 110 km. Return back the same way to break up at Yarra Junction. Spectacular scenery, sensational roads, one tank ride (for some). Expect around 200 km for day.

Sunday 17th     Lavers Hill via The Great Ocean Road                                      Pete Weyermayr leading

9.30 am West Gate Shell Servo

For Pete’s last GOR lead, he learnt the back way to Lorne, skirting around Geelong, but can he remember it months later? Be there and find out. The ride is marked “may not suit inexperienced riders” due to its length – 500 plus kilometres, depending on where you live. Nevertheless, the Great Ocean Road offers some of the best motorcycling road in the world. We have avoided the school holiday period, so traffic should be tolerable. After Lorne it is negligible. Scenery always breathtaking – but don’t look! A ride to remember leaving you on a high. Join Pete for his first lead since visiting Europe.

Sunday 24th     Mt Baw Baw                                                                                      Tim Walker leading 10.15 am Yarra Glen

Knowing Tim’s penchant for tight twisty roads, the route could be something like this: up Chum Creek road, down Myers Creek Road to Healesville, then across to Noojee via Powelltown for lunch after 120 km. You’ll need to refuel as it is 100 km to Mt Baw Baw and back. This ride is not suitable for inexperienced riders – and pretty demanding on good riders. The ride up Mt Baw Baw is technically difficult – lots of tight twisties, blind corners, narrow roads, and hazards – leaf litter, wet patches, on-coming four wheel drives. And watchthat blind left near the top. How’s that for full disclosure! On the positive side the road has almost no intersections, is challenging, great fun and offers plenty of variety. You can really get into a rhythm. Without doubt you will be a better rider at the end of it. Heading home Tim may head south to Drouin and more twisties finishing up at Pakenham. Excellent ride. Be there.

December

Sunday 1st       Tarra Bulga National Park                                                                Ben Warden leading                          10.15 am Hallam

Tarra Bulga National Park is 33 km south of Traralgon, on the Grand Ridge Road. These days it is all bitumen road, speeding up the trip considerably. We usually stop at the swing bridge, along with all the other tourists. This ride is quite long and incorporates some less travelled roads in South Gippsland. Leaving Hallam we’ll head generally east, staying south of the Princes Highway, first stop Trafalgar. Then we’ll head south around to Narracan, Morwell, Traralgon South and the Park. We’ll lunch at Taralgon South (110km) on the way back before heading north to Tyers, Yallourn North, Willow Grove and Noojee(130km). Breakup at Yarra Junction. Expect around 450 km for the day. Depending on time and conditions we may shoot up to Erica and back after Tyers. A wide variety of roads on this ride.

Thurs. 5th        Social Sip, 7 pm Whitehorse Inn, 5 Burwood Road Hawthorn

Sunday 8th       Snake Valley (Ballarat area)                                                               Geoff Jones leading

Third time lucky. The last two attempts have failed due to the inclement weather. Interesting roads, gold mining country, easy ride. Expect around 380 km for the day.
