February 2004            MSTCV Itinerary

Note: All rides start at 10am.

Sunday 8th       Alexandra via Broadford                                                                        Greg Hales leading

                        10am Yarra Glen

Greg will leads us across to Healesville, up the Chum Creek road to Toolangi, a bit of highway to Glen burn, then across to Flowerdale and Strath Creek, then LEFT to Broadford, an easy 105 km for morning tea/ breakfast for the late starters. After the first break we’ll head north to Seymour and up to Highlands and Caveat over a couple of kilometres of hard packed excellent dirt road, around through Gobur and Yarck, a smidge of highway to Molesworth before the brilliant run across to Alexandra for lunch after a longish 125 km. Last hop home probably back via the Black Spur to break up in Healesville. Expect around 350 of great roads for the day. This ride may not suit inexperienced riders.

Sunday 15th     Brisbane Ranges                                                                                   Geoff Jones leading

                        10am Whittlesea

Geoff lives and knows the roads out west like the back of his hand. The Brisbane Ranges are a well kept secret, home of the Wombat National Park and lots of uninterrupted twisty roads through a low lying undulating, range. With very few side roads it is easy to get into a smooth rhythm. The route will be out through Wallan, Romsey., Woodend and Kyneton for morning tea. Then we’ll work our way south on interesting and varied back roads through Spring Hill, Trentham, Blackwood and Ballan before meeting up with the Brisbane ranges. Break-up at Diggers Rest. Expect around 400 km for the day.

Sunday 22nd    Mt Baw Baw                                                                             Mark Easterbrook  leading

                        10am Yarra Glen

Leaving Noojee, Mt Baw Baw offers 50 km of twisty roads of a steadily tightening and steepening nature. And then 50 km back. The ride planning centres around this fact because it governs food, fuel and toilet facilities. After the Powelltown road, expect a splash of fuel at Noojee, then Mt Baw Baw and back, followed by an interesting deviation south. Around 350 km for the day.  Mt Baw Baw is a very technical ride requiring lots of concentration. Hence the ride may not suit inexperienced riders.

Sunday 29th     Lancefield (short ride)                                                                         Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Pyalong, Lancefield for morning tea and fuel, 120 km.  Back To Kinglake West via Emu Flat, Pyalong, Broadford and Flowerdale. 230 km for the day. Home before 2 pm.
