March 2004                 MSTCV Itinerary

Weekend:       Harrietville via Omeo                                                                      Paul Southwell leading

6th-7th              10am Hallam

Organised motel accommodation for this ride has sold out – but speak to Paul to confirm. The proposed route is back roads across to Maffra and Bairnesdale where we pick up the Omeo Highway to Omeo and then the Alpine Way to Mount Hotham and Harrietville. It is Labour Day Weekend and hence the police presence may be high. Or maybe they will be distracted by the Albert Park car Grand Prix. Sunday we will cross the Tawonga Gap, a bit of the Kiewa Valley Highway then back across to Myrtleford via the Happy Valley Road. Home via Whitfield and Mansfield. Expect around 1000 km for the weekend. Monday is rest and recovery. This ride is not suitable for inexperienced riders.

Sunday 7th       Daylesford Pillion Ride                                                                    Martin Hastie  leading

                        10am Whittlesea

Given that not everyone is able or willing to commit to two days riding, this alternative ride may be appealing. It is a leisurely ride particularly suitable for pillions and will be relatively short with more stops at more frequent intervals – to better cope with the pain!   Martin sent me the following route information: Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford to Lancefield morning tea. Then on to Daylesford for lunch via small towns such as Lauriston and Glenlyon. Very scenic. The return route is via Trentham, Woodend, Mt Macedon, Gisborne and  Toolern Vale to break up  at  Bulla. Expect a finish time around 3.30pm after covering around  280 kilometres. It could be cold so rug up. Riders- put the luggage rack on.

Sunday 14th     Loch                                                                                                      Ben Warden leading

                        10am Hallam

Gippsland has some of the best roads close to Melbourne. Lots of undulating hills with well made roads designed for milk tankers. This ride offers occasional views of the sea – if you dare take your eyes off the road. Expect around 400 km of varied riding conditions with a high tyre wear rate.

Friday 19th      Phillip Island Ride Day                                                                         make your own way

Have some fun riding with fellow Club members at the best racing track in the world. Contact Mandy from the Superbike School on 9792-1322 to confirm a place. Last time it was a hoot with 14 members participating. Note: Paul Southwell may have a spare ticket as he purchased a group of five at a moderately discounted price. He can be reached on mobile number 0438-775-267.

Sunday 21st     Lavers Hill via the Great Ocean Road                                        Pete Weyermayr leading

9.30am West gate Shell Service Station

Spectacular scenery, world famous road, magic motorcycling. Follow Pete for a great ride. Expect around 500 km for the day – but still home by 5.30pm. Experienced riders only.

Sunday 28th     Reefton and Black Spurs                                                                       Greg Hales leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

This ride coincides with the Phillip Island World Series Superbikes. Hence, it is a short ride, planned to finish up at a home with a live TV broadcast – volunteer needed. It is unclear whether it will be shown on free-to-air TV, hence Foxtel may be a pre-requisite. The Club will sponsor a BBQ. Be there.
