May 2005 MSTCV Itinerary
Sunday 8th Lancefield Ron Johnston leading 10 am Whittlesea
Join Ron on a fairly standard sort of ride: Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford, Pyalong, and Lancefield for morning tea. Then we may find ourselves working our way across to Chewton and Vaughan, then back to Daylesford for late lunch. After soaking up the local ambience, we’ll head off through Trentham, Woodend, Romsey, and Wallan to break up Whittlesea. Expect around 360 km for the day.
Sunday 15th Meredith
Ben
Warden leading
10 am West Gate Shell Servo
We’ll try not to lose anyone at the first Freeway exit as we wind our way westwards through Exford and Mt Wallace before picking up some decent twisty roads down the east side of the Brisbane Ranges. Six kays south of Anakie we’ll cut across to Maude and up to Meredith for fuel and a breather. After a feed we’ll head towards Ballarat and up Mt Buningyong Fire tower for spectacular views. Back to Bacchus Marsh and Toolern Vale to break up at Diggers Rest on the Calder, close to home. Expect around 320 km for the day. Good tyres are essential as this ride is surprisingly abrasive.
Sunday 22nd Drouin Pub Counter Lunch Paul Southwell leading
10 am Yarra Glen
There is only one route: out through Powelltown, Neerim South and down to Drouin for first break. More twisty roads will follow with a loop down to Loch and back Drouin for lunch. Depending on the weather and participants, a devious route home may be engaged in, possibly back up the Powelltown Road to break up at Yarra Junction. If travelling directly, we expect to be at the pub (1st on the left, over the railway bridge) around 1 pm. Expect around 250 for the day, and it could be very cold.
Sunday 29th Lavers Hill via Great Ocean Road Ron Johnston leading
9.30 am West Gate Shell Servo
A tough ride not suitable for first time Club riders or those lacking in experience. Expect around 500 km for the day as we travel to Moriac for morning tea, then on to Lorne, Apollo Bay and Lavers Hill for lunch around 1 pm. Some bikes will have to fuel every stop, and it is wise to do so as the prevailing winds often see fuel economy plummet. Back to Apollo Bay and up the Skenes Creek Road to return to Moriac. Possible break up at Lara or West Gate Shell Servo, depending on the traffic density. Fantastic ride, worth it for the views alone. Join Ron and maybe Cliff back for his first ride after his Tassie plaster removal.
Thurs. 2nd Social Sip, 7 pm Homestead Inn
Cnr Queen Pde and Grant St, Melways 44C2
Come and have a chat with the new Committee, collect your magazine and save the Club some postage, and catch up with the gang, including their other halves, in a pleasant social setting. Expect around 20 people providing some tall stories and lots of laughs. Early night, home by 10 pm.
Sunday 5th Highlands Trevor Harris leading
10 am Yarra Glen
Scheduled stops at Broadford, Yea and Kinglake West. Good winter’s ride north of the Divide. Expect around 340 km. With luck, Trevor will be leading. It all depends on the timing.
