April 2007                             MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 8th       Mt Donna Buang                                                                             Paul Southwell leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Peter Feistl was down to lead this ride but Easter Sunday family commitments take precedence. Paul will be leading on Pete’s GSXR750 because it is likely his bike won’t be repaired in time. See Who’s News for the gory details. Standard short ride route will include Chum and Myers Creek Roads to Healesville and across Warburton for morning tea at the Bakery. The a quick jaunt up the 25 km of uninterrupted twisty roads to the summit where only the young will climb the fire tower for views of the nearby mountains. It will be quite cold. Then back down the mountain and around the Reefton Spur to Marysville for lunch. One option is to visit the Upper Yarra Dam en-route to check out the water level. Over the Black Spur to Healesville to break-up. Expect around 250 km for the day.

14th - 15th         Weekend Ride, Dargo via Licola                                                   Paul Southwell leading

                        10 am Berwick

Paul has booked two cabins which sleep 6 people each. So far he has about 6 starters so it’s not too late to put your name down.  Up and back to Licola and then onto Dargo should see out the first day. If the Licola Road is still severely choked with soil runoff after the recent fires and floods and hence poor riding, an option is to head to Buchan and investigate the 56 km of twisty bitumen through Gelantipy to Wulgulmerang. Somewhere different!  A relaxing meal and tall stories in the Dargo Pub will absorb the evening.  A gentle ride back to Melbourne for an early finish or meet up with the Sunday Ride crew at Thompson’s Dam. Expect around 850 km for the weekend. Good tyres essential.

Sunday 15th     Thompsons Dam                                                                          Cameron Stevens leading

10 am Yarra Glen

Across to Healesville and Yarra Junction, Poweltown and Noojee for first stop. Everyone must fill at Noojee to have enough juice to reach the next stop. Then out through Hill End to Moe and up to Thompson’s Dam along fantastic roads. Lunch could be at Walhalla or better head down to Tyers (fuel) and back to Moe for late lunch.  The ride could either break up at Longwarry North via Jindivick, or depending on the enthusiasm of the crew, another thrash down the Powelltown Road to finish at Yarra Junction. Expect around 450 km of hard riding for the day. This ride will not suit inexperienced riders.

Sunday 22nd    Strathbogie                                                                                             Geoff Jones leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Kinglake West, Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Kerrisdale, Highlands, Caveat, Yarck for morning tea and fuel after 130 km. Then we’ll head north to Merton and Strathbogie before pushing on through Boho to Violet Town for lunch. Avoiding the Hume we’ll find the alternative route back to Strathbogie via Euroa and continue on to Alexandra for a regroup. Molesworth, Yea, Kinglake West for break-up. Be there.
