It was my second ride with the club in nearly two years and my second ride with my R1. We gathered at Berwick. I only recognised a few old faces and saw many new faces. Ben gave his speech and we were on our way. Paul was unable to lead because the stator on his Fireblade had failed for the second time inside a year. Rumour has it that they run too hot.
Down the Freeway, negotiating traffic all the way till we finally turned off seven kilometres after Pakenham and headed the back way to Drouin and then down to Korumburra.
In Korumburra we found Jean, Rick and Ken waiting for the group. Jean had missed us at the start but knew where the first stop was. Similarly, Rick and Ken had been at the Berwick Servo but had not announced themselves and we took off without them. Somehow they managed to find us. We quenched our thirst at the local bakery and had more of a chin wag. Then Ben gave the word and we were off again.
Ben lead us through the back roads including 3 km of good dirt. This is where Craig and Bernie on their dirt bikes came out shining, power sliding in and out of the corners. Somehow we came out at Mirboo North for lunch. After a bite to eat, Ben takes us on another 70 km loop of the area. The dirt riders took a break and stayed in town while Pina jumped on the back of Ben’s bike for a thrill ride. The roads just got better and better throughout the day and everyone had a great ride.
After a regroup at Mirboo North we were off again, this time towards Thorpdale and Moe for fuel and a group photo. From there we headed for Noojee and then Powelltown. On this road is where the two Suzuki’s and the two R1’s were going hell for leather. Geoff was up there doing really well, but we lost sight of him after a while, leaving me to battle it out with the two Suzuki’s. I felt like the meat in a sandwich, which saw some crazy riding, but in a good way.
We finally arrived in Powelltown, breaking up at the General Store. We travelled roughly 400 km through out the day with no incidents.
