MSR Itinerary July
2007
Sunday 8th Drouin
Counter Lunch Dave Ward leading
10 am Berwick
From Berwick we’ll
head north through Gembrook and Hoddles Creek and on to the
Sunday 15th Rawson Cameron
Stevens leading
10 am Yarra Glen
Trying to stop
Cameron doing a million miles in the middle of winter with a very low sun and 4.30
pm fading light is a struggle. First
stop Noojee via Healesville after 80 km, or after 110 km via Chum and Myers
Creek Roads. Then on to Icy Creek and Hill End amongst the
twisties and down to Moe for lunch and fuel. Tyers is also an option
here. Then around to Walhalla for a regroup, thaw out and photo snap before
retreating back to Rawson and maybe Thompson Dam to check on the water
levels. Back to Moe
for fuel, then west via
Sunday 22nd Castlemaine
Economy Ride Ben
Warden leading
10 am Whittlesea
The idea is to see
what economy your bike gets on a normal club ride. The plan is to fill up at
Whittlesea, ride for 200 km to Castlemaine, fill up
again. The person who puts in the least fuel wins a club membership. Some
scrutineering will occur. The idea is to fill to the maximum at both ends. The
rear rider will maintain his normal 100 km/h minimum on the open road. If he
should pass you twice, you’re out!
(Pretty serious stuff this.) Normal club bike of course. The route: Flowerdale, Strath Creek,
Broadford, Pyalong, Lancefield for morning tea after 123 km. Then
on to Mia Mia and Castlemaine for fuel and lunch after a total of 203 km
elapsed. Heading south we’ll head back via very interesting roads
through Vaughan, Daylesford, Springhill and Woodend for a break after 90 km.
Then down to Bulla via more rarely used club roads to break-up at the servo after
60 km. Expect an easy 350 km for the day.
Sunday 29th Cockatoo Breht Emmerson leading
10 am Yarra Glen
Breht prepares
very thoroughly for leading and this ride is well researched and now almost
familiar. Up Chum Creek Road, down Myers Creek Road to Healesville, then south
to Launching Place, Hoddles Creek and Gembrook before turning north again to
Cockatoo and Yellingbo for morning tea at the Chinese bakery. Brilliant roads so far.
After the break we’ll head up to Woori Yallock and make our way towards
Warburton along as many alternative by-ways as possible before tackling the
Reefton and on to Marysville for lunch. Depending on the group and weather we
may make our way across to Kangaroo Ground to finish, otherwise break-up at
Healesville. Expect around 290 km for the day.
Thurs. 2nd Social
Sip, Mark’s Place, 7 pm corner
Grattan and Swanston Streets Carlton.
Collect your magazine, catch up with the
gang in a social setting, find out whose got a new bike or going on holiday.
Cheap food and beverages, fast service, plenty of visual distractions of the
sporting memorabilia type. Free and plentiful parking. All over by 10 pm. Usually 12-20 people. Why not?
Sunday 5th Mirboo
North Ben Warden leading
(August) 10 am Berwick
I am considering a standard
ride down to Korumburra for morning tea at the bakery. Then
around through Dumbalk (3 km of dirt near Arawata) to Boolarra and Mirboo North
for lunch. Then a tasty loop towards Leongatha and
Hallston, back to Mirboo North and onto Trafalgar via Thorpdale twisties.
Rejoin the highway at Longwarry via
