Total kilometres for the ride 350. Total k's door to door 440. Weather: chilly and cloudy.
I arrived at the Berwick starting point at 9.50am to find Cameron all fired up ready to go. The rest of the crew arrived to hear Ben's pre talk about today’s ride down to Boolara.
I was surprised with the turnout or the lack of it!! South Gippy rides are usually the most fun to be had on two wheels.
The ride made its way to Korumburra for the first stop after approx 110ks. We got there by travelling through Pakeham, then along the back road beside the freeway to Drouin. The only incident to report is that Ian Payne seems to attract dogs where ever we go. Dogs feel the need to take him on!! As both Cameron and myself came down the last few corners into Korumburra, I recalled the car coming sideways towards us in the wet a couple of weeks back. A little chuckle to myself.
We had morning tea at the Kelly's bakery with Ben having a monster size salad roll and the usual coffee for Cameron and me.
Ian and Chris decided to call it quits at this time for family commitments. That left the three of us. We said our goodbyes and shot off back where we came from. As we headed up the hill a Commodore station wagon decided to give us a run. He was a local and provided some laughs for a few miles. This is the part l cannot keep track where Ben takes us. I do remember seeing Dumbalk, Boorlara, Mirboo and Arawata to name a few. We also took a road that eventually turned to dirt, not sure where this was? Had a quick stop ,clean the visors and chat about where Cameron should get to look after his bike in the future. He is looking at getting work done to the suspension to improve the ride and a general service.
There are not many straight roads out here, which is great for the side part of our tires. I will say that in this part of the biking world, you never get bored with the same roads as there are so many options to take. The number of times l realised we had just done a lap without knowing was three at the last count.
The roads today were fairly quiet with the only observation of patchy wet corners and leaf litter. Our lunch stop was in Mirboo North, again at another bakery. As we were ready to go a TOG car went past, followed by us the OTHER way. We headed back to Drouin for the last stop as well for fuel. Ben decided to break up here as we were heading home via the freeway. Uneventful trip home. Thanks Ben for another well done lead and to all the guys who came along.
Won't see you guys for a couple off weeks as Bron and myself are heading to Phuket for Bron’s 40th Birthday bash. Be good.
