MSR Itinerary            June 2007

Sunday 10th    Reefton and Black Spurs                                                                     Dave Ward leading

10 am Yarra Glen

This route is dependent  upon the weather but expect something like Chum Creek, Myers Creek, and across to Warburton for morning tea, maybe via Don Road and a smidge of dirt.. Then around the Reefton, checking out Upper Yarra Dam on the way before stopping for lunch at Marysville. Back across the Black Spur to finish at Healesville with an option of heading across to Kangaroo Ground for afternoon tea. Expect around 250 fun filled km for the day. Good tyres essential.

Monday 11th   Thresherman’s Bakery (short ride)                                                    Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Wallan, Romsey, Woodend for morning tea, then Mt Macedon, Straws Lane, Clarkefield, Wild Dog Road, Bulla, Tullamarine Freeway and Faraday St Carlton for lunch. I will go on some interesting and very seldom used roads. The plan would be to be at the Bakery around 1 to 1.30 pm for family and friends to head there directly.  Expect around 150 km for the day.

Sunday 17th    Eildon                                                                                            Breht Emmerson leading

10 am Yarra Glen

Breht’s proving elusive. Let’s make up a ride for him:  Across to Healesville, up Chum Creek Road and on to Mt Slide turning right to Glenburn and across to Break O’Day  and Yea for morning tea. Then up to Molesworth and across to Alexandra and around Skyline to Eildon. Around the Dam wall and up to Jerusalem Creek or maybe Mt Pinninger before back to Eildon for lunch.  We could also could have picked up the Old Homestead on the  way through. Back to Healesville via Marysville and the Black Spur. Expect around 290 km for the day. Good tyres essential. May not suit first time Club riders.

Sunday 24th    Daylesford                                                                                         Trevor Harris leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Trevor provided the description for this ride: “Today’s ride will be taking in roads in the North-West of Melbourne.  From Whittlesea to Wallan via Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford and Wandong.  Morning tea for bike and rider: fuel and bakeries :)   On to Woodend via Romsey and Straws Lane, then traversing Tylden, and Spring Hill.  There will be around 14 km of main road as we head into Daylesford for lunch.  Park where you can! After lunch we’re off to Little Hampton, Spring Hill, and past the reservoirs to Kyneton.  Then across to Lancefield, Pyalong, Tallarook and Kerrisdale, watching out for the bike with the radar. If Dairy Creek Road is sealed (haven't been on it for 10+ years so will find out during the pre-ride) then we  will go down there and over Junction Hill, back to Flowerdale and break-up at Kinglake West. Otherwise it will be King Parrot Creek Road to Strath Creek, retracing our earlier path back to Flowerdale and break-up at Kinglake West. Expect around 300 km for the day.   And hopefully no U-turns this time!”

Sunday 1st      Nagambie                                                                                                Ian Payne leading

(July)              10 am Yarra Glen

Across to Christmas Hills and up the St Andrews twisties to Kinglake West, Flowerdale, Strath Creek and Broadford for first stop.  Then up to Seymour and past Mitcheltown wineries for lunch at Nagambie. The homeward bound hop will include the 14 km of Northern Highway from Heathcote to Tooborac and on to the Lancefield Road to Emu Flat and Lancefield. We’ll duck across the bumpy volcanic plains with huge sunken areas producing much up and down to Romsey to finish at Wallan after 330 km. Regulation ride with appropriate stops for fuel and food. Weather will not be an issue north of the ranges.
