MSR Itinerary            November 2007

Sunday 4th      Hill End

10 am Yarra Glen

Nic Jacka leading

Probable route is across to Healesville, down to Yarra Junction and on to Powelltown and Noojee for morning tea. Note: no fuel. On to Icy Creek, Hill End and Moe for lunch and fuel. Back to Melbourne via Old Sale Road to Buln Buln with either break up at Longwarry North via Jindivick, or at Powelltown via the Neerims, and Nayook. Depending on the weather and leader, a diversion from Moe down to Mirboo North and back to Drouin is an easy option. Expect between 250 and 350 km for the day.

Sat. 10th          Pillion Ride

10 am Berwick

Ben Warden leading

The plan is to have a sedate ride through the Dandenongs up to Yering Station (Victoria’s first vineyard, 1838) for coffee and cake. After a leisurely break looking around at the impressive architecture, water features, views and general presentation, we’ll make for Threshermans Bakery, Faraday St Carlton, for lunch at 1 pm. Along the way we’ll  visit at Sugarloaf Dam.  Expect around 120 km for the day.

Sunday 11th    Korumburra

10 am Berwick

Paul Southwell leading

From Berwick we’ll head the usual way to Drouin and then down to Korumburra for first break.  Given the amount of housing build up in Pakenham, we may stay on the freeway another 5 km to pick up the old highway at Nar Nar Goon saving a bit of time.  After morning tea, we’ll head north to Warragul, Buln Buln, Crossover and Neerim South for lunch after a short 75 km. Then back to Buln Buln to pick up the Old Sale Road, now heading east towards Moe, then left and north to Hill End and the twisties to Icy Creek, Noojee and final stop Powelltown making 275 km for the day.

Sunday 18th    Reefton Spur

                        10 am Berwick

Dave Ward leading

From Berwick we’ll head along the similar route as the previous week, running parallel to the highway before heading north at Longwarry North to Jindivick, the Neerims and Noojee for morning tea after 110 km. No fuel here so make sure you start with a full tank. On to Powelltown, Yarra Junction and Warburton (50 km) for fuel only before heading across the Reefton regrouping at the top of Lake Mountain.  Back down to Marysville for lunch (another 90 km) and across the Black Spur to Healesville, up Chum Creek Road twisties to Toolangi and Kinglake, down the St Andrews Road to Kangaroo Ground to finish at Warrandyte. Expect around 340 km for the day. Good tyres essential.

Sunday 25th    Thompson Dam (Walhalla)

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Trevor Harris leading

Leaving Yarra Glen it's the direct route to Healesville then to Don Valley.  A quick zig-zag to Patersons Road and we come out at Gladysdale.  Right to Powelltown and Noojee for a rest (no fuel).  Then on to Moe for fuel and a quick bakery stop. On to Tyers, turning left along open roads to Walhalla.  After getting bailed up by the Old Folks ("I had a Triumph when I was your age...") we will then - if the day suits - head out to the Thompson Dam to check on Melbourne's primary water storage. Either way, it's back to Moe for fuel, then via the Old Sale Road to Drouin West and Longwarry North where we’ll break up near the Princes Freeway.  Ride may not suit inexperienced riders, and is not recommended for first time Club riders. Expect around 380 km for the day.

Sunday 4th      Bulga National Park

10 am Berwick

Again, ride may not suit inexperienced riders, not recommended for first time Club riders, mainly from a distance, fatigue perspective.  Cool climate rain forest and the swing bridge highlights of this rarely visited destination. Somewhere different! Expect around 420 km for the day.
