Given that the weatherman was telling me to expect a top of 13 degrees with showers tending to rain, I was a bit surprised to see five other riders at the starting point.

Trevor gave us the low-down on the route of the day. Generally we were heading up through Flowerdale, over to Broadford, down to Wandong and Wallan (first stop). Then onto Lancefield and up and over to Seymour for lunch. After lunch the plan was to head back to Kinglake West via the Highland’s track and Yea then onto Flowerdale, etc.

Some of the highlights during the ride:

  • Finding dry roads from Pyalong to Seymour.
  • Seeing the countryside around Lancefield after recent rains.
  • Noticing that the lamb season had started. Highly recommend new season (spring lamb) lamb with green beans and a good Merlot.
  • Passing dogs (twice) that stayed on the side of the road, remembering the incident in Powelltown when Ian Payne ran over one.
  • No-one coming to grief given that the roads were wet most of the day.
  • Watching Dave keep the wear down on his front tyre by pointing it upwards at every occasion.
  • Seeing Ben extract $40 from Ron without too much argument.
  • Slip-sliding down through Pleasant Creek aka the Chook Farm.
  • Noticing only three dead wombats. The poor buggers must be near extinct by now.
  • Being flashed by oncoming cars warning us of the roadside speed camera.
  • Having a good run back from Yea to Kinglake West.

Thanks Trevor for leading at a cracking pace. What did you mean when you mentioned “Being on a promise”?
