MSR Itinerary January 2008
Sunday 6th
10 am West Gate Shell Servo
Geoff will lead
us over the West Gate Bridge taking the third Werribee exit to avoid as much of
suburbia as possible before heading off towards the You Yangs and Anakie. The
roads are pretty straight up until this point but from now on become flowing
uphill sweepers as we traverse the Brisbane Ranges on the west side. On to
Maude and Meredith for morning tea at the BP servo. After the break we’ll pick up the twisty and
steep Durdidwarrah road across to the east side of the Ranges and back to
Anakie. Now we’ll start heading north
picking up the old club hill climb road up Mt Wallace. You’ll marvel at the
poor state of the road – gravel and potholes on every corner – and wonder how
we ever held time trials up here. On to Ballan,
Sunday 13th Daylesford Trevor
Harris leading
10 am Whittlesea
Roads in the
north-east of
Sat. 19th Learner/Casual/Pillion
short ride Breht
Emmerson leading
10 am Yarra Glen
Emphasis on slow,
legal, low stress, suitable for learner riders, pillion passengers and/or guys
getting back into riding after a break without the stress of keeping up or long
distances. A social ride with riding the
secondary aim but enough to whet the appetite for more on a Sunday. The route
will include Chum and Myers Creek Roads to Healesville, the Black Spur to
Marysville, first stop, Alexandra, Molesworth and Yea for fuel. Break up at
Kinglake West after 180 km of easy paced riding. Enjoy the view!
Sunday 20th Dargo
10 am Berwick
Off to Dargo to visit Dan and Maggie to
sample the “best hamburgers in the world”.
Maggie really cares about the ingredients and perfect cooking, something
not often sampled at fast food outlets these days. Of course, there will be
excellent roads to get the juices flowing on the way. Expect around 420 km of
roads rarely travelled with almost no highways. Good tyres essential. Ride may not suit inexperienced riders and is not
recommended for first time Club riders due to the length and technical
difficulty of the ride.
Fri
25th Jindabyne
See elsewhere for
more details.
Sun 27th Eildon via
Note the leader and destination of this ride
has recently changed. With many of the regular riders away at Jindabyne Peter
has kindly stepped into the breach. Route will include Myers and Chum Creek
Roads, the Black Spur, Marysville (morning tea), Taggerty, Torbreck, Eildon
(lunch), Fraser National Park over Skyline Road to Alexandra and Molesworth to
Yea. Finish at Kinglake West. Expect 330 km for the day. Ride will not suit
inexperienced riders and is not recommended for first time Club riders due to
the technical difficulty of the ride. These roads are notoriously unforgiving.
Do not bring a friend.
