MSR Itinerary                      July  2008

Sunday 6th      Daylesford                                                                                              Nic Jacka  leading

10 am Yarra Glen

From Yarra Glen we’ll head across to Healesville, up Chum Creek Road to Toolangi and on to Glenburn, Flowerdale and Strath Creek for morning tea at Broadford after 100 km.  More good road to Pyalong, Lancefield (quick fuel stop), Burke and Wills Track, Kyneton, Spring Hill, Glen Lyon and Daylesford for lunch after another 140 km. Hopefully in the middle of winter parking will be less of an issue – dress warmly as Daylesford is very cold. Homewood bound we’ll head east to Trentham, then down through Blackwood, Greendale, Myrniong, Bacchus Marsh and Toolern Vale to break up at Diggers Rest (105 km). Expect around 335 km for the day on some of the best roads close to Melbourne.

Sunday 20th    Castlemaine Economy Ride                                                               Ben Warden leading

10 am West Gate Shell Servo

First you fill up to overflowing, then we ride to Castlemaine, then we fill up again. The person who puts the lowest amount of fuel in wins a membership (or a refund).  Obviously we have to wrap some rules around this simple scenario to avoid unsafe riding situations (lying on the tank, travelling below the speed limit, coasting down hill with the engine off). So, if the rear rider passes you, you are out! Must maintain the legal limit. Rear rider will be the final judge.  First stop is Woodend for morning tea. Lot’s of good roads so the temptation to go “at a normal club pace” will be hard to resist anyway. Return trip via Chewton, Sutton Grange, Mia Mia, Lancefield, Romsey and Wallan. Expect around 400 km for the day.

Sunday 27th    Gippsland (Loch area)                                                                          Dave Ward leading

                        10 am Berwick

Join Dave for his first ride back after his enforced holiday. First stop Loch for morning tea, then south towards Wonthaggi before making our way across to Korumburra for lunch. Then up the Korumburra – Warragul Road and on to Crossover, Neerim South and back to Jindivick.  If the ride is going well, we may divert at the Old Sale Road and head through Hill End and back into Noojee with the option of heading home via Powelltown or back to the highway via Jindivick. Expect around 320 km for the day.

August 2008

Sunday 3rd      Mt Macedon                                                                                           Ian Payne  leading

10 am Yarra Glen

The route from Yarra Glen will include Toolangi, Flowerdale, Strath Creek and Broadford for morning tea. Then south ducking under and over the Hume Highway to Wandong and Wallan, before continuing west to Romsey up and down the steep valleys to visit The Cross at Mt. Macedon. It could be foggy and it will be very cold, maybe even snowing, but the short walk and view is worth it. Down to Woodend for lunch then south to Blackwood and Greendale to Bacchus Marsh before breaking up at Bulla, just off the Calder Highway, only 15 minutes from the city. Expect around 250 easy kilometres for the day.
