MSR Itinerary                      March  2008

Sat. 8th            Yea Pillion Ride (short ride)                                        Dave Ward leading leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Emphasis on slow, legal, low stress, suitable for learner riders, pillion passengers and/or guys getting back into riding after a break without the stress of keeping up or long distances. A social ride with riding the secondary aim but enough to whet the appetite for more on a Sunday. Start at Yarra Glen, across to Healesville, up Chum Creek Road to Toolangi, down to Glenburn, across to Flowerdale and Strath Creek, back to Yea for lunch at the pub. The ride will probably end here with people making their own way home via various routes. Expect around 180 km for the day.

Sunday 9th      Mt Baw Baw                                                                                             Nic Jacka leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Healesville, Myers and Chum Creek Roads and back to Healesville for fuel – compulsory stop as there is none in Noojee anymore. On to Powelltown, Noojee (morning tea) and up to Mt Baw Baw to the village. Then back down again completing 100 km of intensely twisty and fatiguing roads. On to Warragul for lunch followed by a  play south of the highway finishing up at Pakenham. Expect 340 km for the day.

Sun 16th          Mt Bunninyong Fire Tower                                                            Geoff Jones  leading                          10 am West Gate Shell Servo

This will be a typical Geoff Jones long ride picking the eyes out of the best roads in west with a little (a lot?) of everything. The route will include Werribee, Brisbane Ranges (Anakie, Maude, Meredith for morning tea), Mt Mercer, Garibaldi, Mt Buninyong Tower, Gordon, Ballan, Spargo Creek, Daylesford (lunch?), Spring Hill, Carlsruhe, Lancefield, Pyalong, Broadford (afternoon tea) to finish at Kinglake West. Expect 450 km for the day. You’ll need good tyres as wear may be extreme.

Sun 23rd          Yarram via Balook                                                                          Ben Warden  leading                        10 am Berwick

The Labertouche Jindivick road has been resurfaced and was particularly nasty the last time I visited, limiting routes to Moe for the first stop (late starters take note).  We’ll stay north of the highway until Morwell when we’ll head south to Churchill and up into the mountains to Balook.  On to Yarram for lunch and then around through Toora and the wind farms heading for Foster and Leongatha. Home via Korumburra and Drouin. Expect around 500 km for the day. This ride will not suit inexperienced riders or first time Club riders. Best not to bring a friend on this one.

Sun 30th          Reefton and Black Spurs                                                                           leader required

10 am Yarra Glen

Typically the route would be up and down Myers and Chum Creek Roads to Healesville, across to Yarra Junction and around to Warburton for early lunch/ late morning tea. Then around the Reefton (in excellent condition) to Marysville. Options include side trips to Mt Donna Buang, Lake Mountain or the upper Yarra Dam. Rather than going directly home via the Black Spur, an alternative is to head up to Alexandra and across to Molesworth and Yea to break-up at Kinglake West.

Sunday 6th      Eildon via Torbreck River                                                                 Peter Jones  leading

10 am Yarra Glen

Healesville, Black Spur Marysville for a splash of fuel and morning tea. Then up to Buxton and Taggerty before tackling the challenging 37 km of uninterrupted twisties of the Jamieson Road, stopping at Torbreck River where the bitumen ends. Another 37 km back to the highway for regroup, fuel and lunch at Eildon. Next hop is across to Yea via the Fraser National Park road and the Molesworth road. Break-up at Kinglake West. Expect around 320 km for the day. Not for the inexperienced rider.
