March 2001 Whos News
The MTCV Home Page has taken 307 hits during March and 8068 since April 1996. See more information such as magazine articles in the Members-only section. I have also been doing some work on the Good Motorcycling Roads (Victoria) section, updating pages and adding new information. The original author, Stewart Forster, has left motorcycling and the Club to pursue career and family aspirations. Have your say on the Visitors' Page. It makes interesting reading. Note: it is edited from time to time.
Road Conditions Reporting Line: 9854-2899 where motorcyclists can report road conditions and give suggestions for improvement on any road in Victoria.
Peter Doak has sold his Harley and bought a 2001 GSXR1000, one of three in Victoria so far. Interestingly it is rev limited in the first three and top gears, presumably to stop you wheeling it over backwards in the lower gears, and speed limiting it to 300 km/h in top. Sensational. It is rumoured that Yamaha dealers have plenty of heavily discounted R1's on the floor which they can't move, while Suzuki is deluged with back orders for the 1000.
Club Participant of the Year is drawing to a close at the end of April. Points are awarded for attending a ride or function such as a Club Meeting or Social Sip (1 point), leading a ride (extra point) and doing rear riding duties (extra point), as well as for writing contributions for the Club Magazine (limit 2 points per magazine). The current standings at the 3rd of March are: Ian Payne (74), Ben Warden (70.5), (half a point when rear riding duties are shared), Ron Johnston (38), Geoff Jones (34.5), Ray Walker (33), Dianne Welsford (32.5), Wayne Grant (31.5), Bruce Saville (30) and Geoff Barton (29) rounding out the top ten. Looks like Ian has an unassailable lead.
Dave Ward crashed Bronwyn's RGV250 at a Phillip Island Ride Day on Monday January 29th. That was last months news. Bron has returned the favour, totalling their R1 on the link road between Christmas Hills and St Avdrews. She walked away after loosing the front end on gravel. The bike cart-wheeled. Dave has bought it back from the insurance company and will turn it into a track bike and do ride days and some racing. The new Ducati or F4 are on hold while he works his way through this project.
Special thanks to Nick Casemore who printed our fabulous new blue Good Vibrations magazine covers. Check out the MTCV logo on the helmet. Very impressive. It is help like this that keeps the Club strong. Much appreciated.
Seen at the new format Meeting/Social Sip on March 1st were Ray and Katrina Walker, Bruce Saville, Ric Brabbin, Les Leahy, Tim Walker, Ian Payne, Priya Munasinghe, Wayne Grant, Martin Quinn, Ron and Daniel Johnston, Rhys Williams, Ben Warden, Dianne Welsford and Jon Riddett. A total of 16 people and more popular than our recent normal general meetings!
The Reefton Spur ride on March 4th had its fair share of crashes with 3 of our group failing to make it through unscathed! Jeff Hornby ZX6, David Nimmo GSXR750 and Bradley Cain TRX850 all had, thankfully, minor spills and were able to ride away. Unfortunately Bradleys immaculate TRX has been written off and he is looking at replacement bikes such as a VTR1000 or a Super Blackbird.
