August 2001 MTCV Itinerary
Sunday 5th Nagambie Ian Payne leading 10.15 am Whittlesea
Nagambie is situated on the Goulburn Valley Highway 27 km north of Seymour. The route will be north from Whittlesea to Nagambie via Wandong and the Old Hume Highway for late morning tea/lunch. After lunch we will head east across to Euroa and down through the Strathbogie Ranges to Merton before heading back home either over the Black Spur or Yea. A mixture of roads varying from very straight to open sweepers. Expect around 400 km for the day.
Sunday 12th Trawool Pub (short ride) Wayne Grant leading
1 pm Counter Lunch, 10.15 am Whittlesea
Wayne, on his trusty ZX900, will lead us to the picturesque Trawool Country Resort (pub) for a leisurely lunch. Good roads abound including Flowerdale and Strath Creek Roads. Expect around 160 km for the day. Ride would suit a pillion or meet us there.
Sunday 19th Ballan Hill Climb Geoff Jones leading
10.15 am West Gate Shell Service Station
Geoff and his family annually organise a timed ride from the bottom of Mt Wallace to the top, a distance of less than one kilometer. Timing is performed with a stop-watch and various technologies from CB radio, mobile phone, and flash light/headlight beams. Very sophisticated. The road is narrow, steep and very tight. Dave Ward got serious last time and blitzed the other competitors (in particular Craig (YZF750), Warwick Piper (FZR1000) and multiple winner Tim Walker (ZX7)) on his final run. The ante has been upped this year with Craig on a Blade. Always great fun and very interesting. A short ride either side of the event is usual. Cakes?
Sun. 26th Reefton Spur (short ride) Paul Tallents leading
10.15 am Yarra Glen
Wet or dry, hot or cold, this road remains one of the most popular destinations on anyones itinerary. The surface is always good, the number of bends always the same. Look out for on-coming bikes and 4WDs, though at this time of the year the traffic is very light. Come and join Paul on this short ride. Expect around 200 km for the day as we sample the nearby ranges.
September
Sunday 2nd Drouin via Noojee Ron Johnston leading
10.15 am Yarra Glen
All good roads. Should be a hoot. Expect around 400 km for the day. Note: this ride may not suit inexperienced riders due to the number of corners involved and the difficult conditions we may encounter.
