Even early Sunday morning it was quite apparent that this was going to be one helluva warm day. Still, not to be deterred, ten bikes and riders were ready to do the Sunday thing. Geoff rattled off our directions and Ian kindly took up the duty of rear rider.
The plod down the Highway to Pakenham was the usual boring part of the trip but it is simply the fastest way to the good roads. On through Tynong and Longwarry before tucking down south to Lardner and then some great pieces of road to Korumburra. Ray and I were corner marking at the Highway at Korumburra and found we were short a couple of riders, so I headed back to find Ian playing fuel tanker for Martin Quinn. As we had only traveled about 120 km the R6 must be damn thirsty. Anyway Korumburra provided the necessary refreshments, a bit of respite from the heat and a fuel stop, before tackling the next section down to Churchill Island.
From Korumburra we headed down to Jumbunna, across to Krowera, on through Archies Creek. to San Remo and onto Churchill Island. Now on one of these tricky bits of road there is a pretty tight left hander complete with a liberal amounts of dirt and gravel on the far side, 'Could catch someone' I thought .. It did Chris had to confront the corner and a car. Alas the BM went down for the count. Luckily Chris escaped without serious injury, but the bike, although rideable (just) didn't fare to well. Apparently it survived pretty well until the fateful cartwheel just before coming to a stop. Jack volunteered to accompany Chris back to Korumburra, I think it was, where a trailer could be organised. Thanks Jack; a bit of company always eases the pain
Arriving at Churchill Island it was great to get some shade and relax. Drinks and icecreams seemed to be the order of the day, with nobody feeling like they wanted to go sightseeing. This tourist destination is so bloody "green" they dont have rubbish bins. Simply amazing. I reckon a tonne of trash must be chucked off the bridge when people leave the Island.
Mounting up Geoff led us off the Island through Bass, Glen Forbes, Kernot, Nyora and on to a breakup at Lang Lang. By this time the heat was really oppressive and everyone was looking forward to getting home. Well almost everyone. Ray and Zac were overheard talking about heading for the Reefton ..crazy guys. Thanks for leading Geoff, and to our tireless President for the rear rider duties. Another great day
