March 2001 MTCV Itinerary

Sunday 4th Reefton Spur Tim Walker leading

9.30 am KBCP, 10.30 am Yarra Glen

Tim's not riding much this year but that doesn't mean he's getting slower- on the contrary! He loves that ZX7 and that ZX7 loves twisty roads. It is marked as "Not suitable for inexperienced riders." That means there will be a lot of twisty roads, enough to fatigue the less hardened riders. Could go anywhere including Mt Donna Buang, Yea, Flowerdale, Molesworth, Eildon, even the Powelltown Road deep into Gippsland. And of course the Reefton and Black Spurs, possibly to finish off on. Only one to find out. Be there! With decent tyres. Expect 400 hard km for the day.

Weekend Omeo, Pub Accommodation Ben Warden leading

10th - 12th 10.15 am Hallam

Are you looking for that perfect series of corners that blend into each other, mile after mile? This could be the ride for you. First day Omeo via Gippsland and Dargo; second day Mt Hotham and beyond, third day an easy one back to Bairnesdale and deep into Gippsland, and home again. Winter is approaching and along with it the loss of the best riding conditions. Get motivated. It is a public holiday. What could be better than a ride with your mates? Only 1500 easy km. Do it.

Sunday 11th Cape Schank Lighthouse (short ride) Ian Payne leading

10.15 am Hallam

A short ride to the picturesque Mornington Peninsula. It will cost a small amount to hear the interesting guided tour of the lighthouse. Take time to read the various tales of ship wrecks. They did it tough in the old days. Bring the wife. Ride slow. Enjoy the scenery. Expect around 150 km .

Sunday 18th Lavers Hill via Great Ocean Road Ben Warden leading

9.30 am West Gate Shell servo

Back roads to Anglesea for a coffee scroll at the bakery and for the stragglers to catch up. Lunch at Lavers Hill - pumpkin soup is good. Back to Apollo Bay and up Skenes Creek Rd to Forest, Deans's Marsh and Moriac for fuel. Grouse roads and scenery all day. Break up West Gate Shell Servo, 5 pm. Expect around 500 km for the day, poor fuel consumption, and a huge grin.

Sunday 25th Flowerdale (short ride) Greg Hales leading

10.30 am Yarra Glen

Across to Healesville, up to Toolangi, Glenburn, Flowerdale, Yea (morning tea), Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford, Wandong, Whittlesea, Kinglake, St Andrews Road, break-up at Panton Hill. Come and join Greg on his first time lead. Roads sound good. Expect around 250 km for the day.

Sunday 1st Boolara (Gippsland) Geoff Barton leading

(April) 9.30 am KBCP, 10.15 am Hallam

Best roads within a day of Melbourne. Geoff knows them all. Be there. Expect around 500 km. Note: ride is marked arduous. Be ready for a long day with a lot of high speed work, rain or shine.

Thursday 5th Social Sip, 7 pm Elgin Inn Hotel, 75 Burwood Road Hawthorn

This is not a misprint. The general meeting has been replaced with the Social Sip until May, the Annual General Meeting. This is in response to the flagging numbers at general meetings and as a cost saving measure - to reduce the number of times we pay to hire the hall. The Club Magazine will be distributed at this Social Sip, or posted as usual. So, get your social fix for the month, collect the magazine (and help save on postage), all over an ale and fine, reasonably priced food.
