Easter Monday Sunday April 16th 2001-05-02
Yep its a Monday, unusual for a Club run, but oh, the weather, ..stunning!
The published leader, Peter Doak, was unable to, due to other commitments, so yours truly answered Ian Paynes call for help. Billed as a short ride the Yarra Glen starters were:
MartinBastock / Peem Honda CBR 1000F
Rhys Williams Kawasaki ZX9R (new, the bike, not Rhys )
Bradley Cain Suzuki TL 1000S (traded in his crash damaged TRX)
Di_Welsford Honda CBR 600
MickHanlon Yamaha YZF 600
Jeff Hornby Kawasaki ZX6R
Jack Youdan Honda VFR 800
Wayne /Kay Triumph Tiger (35K but as new)
Wayne / Dianne Nimmo Suzuki GSXR1300 Hyabusa
We had Mick ZX12R, join us for the Launching Place to Noojee leg. Our route was through Healesville and Yarra Junction to Noojee coffee stop. The roads were damp enough around Powelltown to string out the column a little but other than that .no probs!
A word here about our rear rider. Rhys is one of the Clubs quicker riders and to volunteer for rear duties on these roads sets a fine example. Thanks are in order.
From Noojee we rode east-south to Hill End. This "logging" road is now fully sealed, narrow and unlined, but good camber and tight bends; try it sometime. Some rough surface around Hill End suggests we would all be better off on BMWs for this bit. The road through Willow Grove to Trafalgar is nigh on perfect try this too.
Where was all the Easter traffic? Where was the "massive police blitz"? Where was the "road carnage"? Certainly not on the roads we used (thankfully).
At our published Warragul destination-lunch stop, consensus (not a Club member) ruled that we terminate our short ride here at 150 km. from Yarra Glen. Most riders wanted to head home via differing routes, eg. Di had this burning desire to ride the Reefton Spur and get herself booked during the police blitz!
Finally, the observant will note that there were four women on this runcould be the Leaders charisma perhaps? (The published leader, not the stand in.)
Your leader and scribe,
Jack Youdan
