We met at Yarra Glen at the new regular time of 10:15am. I gather this time is made to ensure were there, ready for a 10:30 start. Ron was leading so he explained to the others of us in great detail the route that we would be taking. For anyone who knows me, I was lost before we got on the road. We headed off along the back road to Healesville, then from Healesville to Woori Yallock where we travelled through some semi suburban streets that were slow but nice and twisty, continuing on to Hoddles Creek and Yarra Junction. It was about here that the dreaded rain started, so the exciting roads to Poweltown and further on to Noojee became just that little bit more exciting.
Morning tea was had at Noojee where we came across a couple of groups of the Ulysses Club. There were around 20 or more bikes of various makes and models. We also met Jack on his new BMW who was out on he own, but joined up with one of the Ulysses groups who were on their way to Marysville.
We headed off on the next leg of the ride towards Willowgrove along a very nice road that I would have enjoyed more if it was dry. There was the challenge of passing 15 or so of the Ulysses riders doing around 50 kmh and taking up a lot of the road. Once through the twisties we regrouped to find out from Ben, who was rear riding, that one of the Ulysses riders had come off. We continued on to Trafalgar and a stop at Yarragon for lunch and fuel. This gave my fingers an opportunity to defrost.
From Yarragon we went left onto Hazeldean Rd which led us to Drouin. Rhys left us somewhere between Yarragon and Drouin and Ben and Rob went their separate ways after a brief stop at Drouin. Ron Jeff and myself chose to go home the winding way through to Neerim, Poweltown, Yarra Junction where the roads became dry, and then the back road to Woori Yallock. At Seville I split up from Ron and Jeff and continued home. For me it was a 320km day door to door.
Thanks to Ron for a great run; do it again when it is dry please.
