Les Leahy has traded his XT600 for a new KTM640. Lighter, faster, high tech.

Congratulations to Rob Matricciani and Mandy who are expecting their first child in late October.

In an effort for greater tire life, Pete Weyermayr has fitted a set of Z3’s to his Fireblade. The only problem is they slide a bit more easily than the Dunlops, according to Ian Payne.

Long time members Tom Saville and Andi Sirninger have just returned from a trip to South America where they “WALKED” up to the ancient Inca City of Machu Picchu.

Dianne Welsford is off to Canada for a holiday in early July and what better way to see the sights than on two wheels. Yes, she has hired a BMW F650 for some sightseeing after her Con Tiki tour.

Heard that Daniel Kosinski is also off on a holiday, this time to New Guinea!

In the latest issue of Streetbike there is an article on a supercharged Honda VTR1000. Owner is a Glenn Payne, brother of President Ian. In the flesh the bike is a work of art and very easy to convert back to standard carbs.

The BMW Motorcycle Club is holding the 2002 Icicle Ride on Saturday 20th July. Starts at midnight and finishes at dawn Sunday 21st July. Assemble at the BP Service Station, Corner of Doveton Ave and Princes Highway, Doveton, Melway’s Reference 91B12

Sunday 21st July. Pig and Whistle Hotel Counter Lunch. (Ian Payne leading)

Due to the Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club being at this venue at the same time as us, there is a limited number of seats available for lunch. A booking has been made for us, but those intending to eat at the pub must notify Ian Payne of their intentions. Those intending NOT to eat at the Pub can still come on the ride but are “reminded” that there is no other eatery in the town. Trentham has the next closest take-aways, approximately 6 kms away. Contact: - Ian Payne, phone 9558-4740 (H) or 8574-3428 (Bus)

Email from Rhys Williams: Hi Ben.  Well, as per discussion at the Social Sip the other night, I took to the front discs with a couple of beers, a large hammer, and a block of wood. (Rhys was suffering from pulsing at the brake lever due to a warped disks…Ed.) Twenty minutes later the brakes were mint, well almost. I couldn't believe how piss-weak the carriers are........anyway I reckon it's saved me 150 skins, but I haven't tried them at the super fun level........Still, they're about 100% on what they were.  Gees, I'm a tight arse sometimes. I wonder where I learnt that. …Rhys.

Dave Moore has sold his WR250 and bought Dave Ward’s YZ426. A good result for both parties and one of the benefits of being in the Club.

For Sale: Aprilia RSV Mille, 8,000km, mint. Registered to November. Titanium pipe and race chip, good tyres. Price negotiable. Genuine reason for sale. Contact Ken Wright on mobile 0417-519-702.

For Sale: Yamaha R1, 1999 model, 12,000 km, $9,000, no offers. This is Dave Ward’s track bike returned to road trim. It has been crashed but fully rebuilt – minor cosmetic damage anyway. It still has the odd mark on the fairing. Extras include long registration, braided brake lines, Kruz Tune suspension, front and rear, Arrow exhaust system, race and stock air filter and good tyres. The bike is fully sorted and is a bargain for the right buyer. Dave Ward can be reached on 9563-7705 between 1 am and 3 pm, or on mobile 0413-624-598. The bikes has some spares such as brake pads.

Dave Ward, Clint Vertigan, Dave Moore, Tony Schrader and Darryn Webster are doing an organized  Cape York trip in August. They fly to Weipa and collect their WZ400s and spend a couple of weeks doing the sights. Plenty of river crossings, green ants, heat and humidity to contend with. We wish them luck.

Dave Moore, whilst out riding with the above mentioned Clint and Dave Ward way back in March, tossed away his R6 on the Old Healesville Road, big time. Everything is being repaired – bike – cosmetics, leathers, gloves, helmet. He was chasing “Fat Bastard’ on a Fireblade at the time. He crashed at high speed and slid more than 50 metres straight up the bitumen, and walked away. His biggest frustration – losing his Michelin tyre pressure gauge – he found the plastic case only. The crash put the rest of the crew off road riding for quite a while – hence the big dirt trip.
