May 2002 MSTCV Itinerary
Sunday
5th Yea Rob
Langer leading
10.15
am Whittlesea
Come and join
Rob on his trusty BM R1150 for a ride around our favourite nearby eastern hills.
We’ll be heading to Wallan and Lancefield for morning tea. Then back around to
Pyalong, Seymour, andYea with a couple of options to get to Marysville, either via
Molesworth,or Kinglake and Toolangi. I suspect the Molesworth route given the
early sunset these days. It won’t be short on kays, despite the close
destination, as Rob loves to ride. Expect around 420 km for the day.
Sunday
12th Drouin via Mt Baw Baw
Tim Walker leading
10.15
am Yarra Glen
Mt Baw Baw could
be a tad chilly this time of year so come prepared. Route will include Powelltown Road,
and knowing Tim, I wouldn’t be surprised if we found ourselves amongst the
Reefton and Black Spurs. Then again, there are plenty of great roads just
getting to Drouin, and, if you like very tight and twisty with the occasional
bump, this could be the ride for you. Expect around 350 km for the day. Note:
this ride is designated for the experienced riders due to the technical
difficulty of some of the roads.
Sunday 21st Eildon
via Torbreck River Greg Hales leading
10.15 am Yarra Glen
Greg will escape
mowing duty (wait-on, his wife does that) to lead us on the glorious Torbreck River Rd until it turns to dirt: thirty seven kilometres of uninterrupted
corners, and then another thirty-seven back. Of course we’ll encounter the
Black Spur and Molesworth Roads as we make a loop out of the day. Expect around
350 km for the day. Though not listed as difficult, it could be a tiring ride.
Sunday
26th Axedale Pub Ian Payne leading
10.15
am Whittlesea
Just north of Lake Eppalock,
Axedale Pub offers country hospitality to passing travellers. Rug up, send the
missus in the car or persuade her to enjoy the view from the pillion seat. The
countryside lends itself to leisurely touring, so it could be an ideal way to
pass a pleasant Sunday. We’ll be heading out through Wallan and Romsey to
Lancefield for morning tea. Options abound from this point: Woodend, Redesdale,
Castlemaine, but we’ll make lunch around 1 pm for the car travellers.
Home via Pyalong, Broadford and Whittlesea to breakup. Expect around 350 km.
Sunday 2nd Kinglake
Bruce Saville leading
(June) 10.15
am Yarra Glen
Join Bruce on
his silver VFR800 on his first Club lead. Route undefined, but lots of options.
Kinglake National Park spreads as far north as Glenburn, as far south as Yarra Glen and as
far west as Arthurs Creek. Amongst this lot are a myriad of interesting back roads. Join
Bruce as he investigates some of them. Expect around 350 easy kilometres for
the day.
Thurs. 6th Social Sip, 7 pm Whitehorse Inn, 5 Burwood Rd Hawthorn
(Collect Club Magazine and new Itineraries)
Sunday 9th Mt Buninyong Fire Tower (Ballarat area) Geoff Jones leading
10.15 am Whittlesea
