April 2003                    MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 6th       Marysville Bakery (short ride)                                                           Dave Ward   leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Everyone knows these roads. The Reefton offers the best sports bike riding close to Melbourne with its uninterrupted swervery for 19 kilometres. Watch out for oncoming vehicles and not over cooking it as the road rewards smooth riding and has little margin for error. Challenging, yet exhilarating and of world wide fame. Dave may throw in a mountain pass as well, such as Mt Donna Buang, as the warm up. Expect around 300 km of hard riding for the day. May not suit inexperienced riders.

Sunday 13th     Mt Baw Baw                                                                                       Tim Walker  leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

The route will include up and down Myers and Chum Creek Roads, across to Powelltown and Noojee for first stop and must fuel. Then 100 km of tight, tricky, steeply uphill (then downhill) twisties to Mt Baw Baw and back to Noojee for lunch. Then down to Drouin via Jindivick and back to Powelltown to break up at Yarra Junction. Expect around 350 km of corners and more corners. This ride will not suit inexperienced riders. It is almost a members’ only ride, given our recent history of crashes up Mt Baw Baw. Think seriously before bringing a friend.

Friday 18th      Lancefield  (Good Friday)                                                                       Rob Langer leading                       10.15 am Whittlesea

Out through Flowerdale to Yea, then up the Highlands Road and onto Seymour for morning tea after 110 km of interesting, fun roads. Then onto Pyalong and through the volcanic, bolder strewn country around Emu Flat, Baynton, and Lancefield. Back to Pyalong for lunch. Home via Broadford and Strath Creek, breaking up at Kinglake West. Expect around 350 km for the day.

Sunday 20th     Mirboo North (Easter Sunday)                                                                  Ian Payne  leading

                        9.30 am Hallam

Mirboo North is in the heart of dairy producing Gippsland, with its undulating bare hills and wide, milk tanker capable roads. Perfect motorcycling country. Ian likes to head around Harkaway before crossing the highway and heading south. But I won’t attempt to predict the route any further as there are so many possibilities. Places such as Drouin, Leongatha, Dumbalk, Thorpedale and Trafalgar may be visited. Expect in the vicinity of 400 km of excellent roads and scenery for the day.

Friday 25th      Portland via Great Ocean Road        (ANZAC Day)             Ron Johnston leading

9.30 am West Gate Shell Servo – see Who’s News

Sunday 27th     Lake Mountain (short ride)                                              Pete Weyermayr leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Geoff Jones, the nominal leader for this ride, is unable to fulfil this duty due to work commitments taking him out of the country. Pete has stepped into the breach. And so this could be an undercover Reefton Spur ride with a slight deviation up to Lake Mountain. A possible route could be Myers and Chum Creek roads to Warburton for morning tea and fuel. Then around the Reefton, up  Lake Mountain, and then back to Marysville for lunch and break-up. Maybe a final blat across the Black Spur together. Around 220 km.

May 2003

Thurs. 1st         Annual General Meeting, Election of Office Bearers

8.15 pm Club Hall, Inglesby Road, Camberwell, Melways Reference 59J2

Come and have your say in how the Club is run. Got any ideas or directions you think the Club should be investigating? Come along and bring your idea(s) up in General Business or catch a Committee person.  Les Leahy normally runs the formal side of things which doesn’t take long. It’s followed by a light supper. There will be door prizes.

Sunday 4th       Kilcunda                                                                                               Ben Warden leading

                        10.15 am Hallam

Think high speed sweepers, views of the ocean, no cars, long flowing roads with barely an intersection, getting into the rhythm, becoming one with the bike. Think Kilcunda.
