December 2003                    MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 7th       Eildon via Broadford                                                                   Greg Hales leading

                        10.15am Yarra Glen

Heaps of twisty roads through our favourite eastern ranges. Expect 400 km for the day. Likely places we’ll pass through include Healesville, Glenburn, Flowerdale and Broadford for morning tea. Then Seymour, Highlands, Yea, Molesworth, Alexandra and Eildon. Sensational ride. Don’t miss it.

Sat. 13th          Free Club Xmas BBQ

                        12-4pm, Fairfield Park, Melways 30 J12

Given our low requirements for access to childrens’ play ground equipment and the electric BBQs (we’ll bring our own) the Club will probably head up the east end of the park, under the large tree, as per last year. Bring your better half and kids for a social get together in this festive season. No charge for members, $5 non-members to cover the cost of meat and salads. Bring your own beverages, though a 20 litre container of cordial will be on hand if it turns out to be very hot. You’ll need your own chair and some sunscreen. Paddle boat hire is available at the nearby Fairfield boathouse.

Sunday 14th     Marysville Bakery (short ride)                                                             Dave Ward leading

                        10.15am Yarra Glen

One senses a squirt across the Reefton Spur with maybe a diversionary ride up and down Chum and Myers Creek roads. If you miss the start, head for Warburton for the obligatory top up for TLs and VTRs.  Expect around 180 km for the day on some of the best motorcycle roads close to Melbourne.

Sunday 21st     Dumbalk                                                                                               Ben Warden leading

                        10.15 am Hallam

A mixture of fast, open sweepers crossed with a couple of transport sections between the good stuff. Great roads, sensational scenery, route perfected over the years to maximise fun and minimise the points risk. Ride not suitable for inexperienced riders due to the distances and highly technical (read dangerous, unforgiving) nature of the roads. Don’t bring a mate. Expect the unexpected: gravel in corners, farmers popping out of ground, Mr Plod falling from the sky. On the positive side, Gippsland has some of the best roads in Victoria (the nearest thing we have to the Corryong / Alpine region) that just seem to be getting better and better. Expect 500 hard kays, extreme tyre wear, and two days to recover. Should be grouse!

Fri 26th to        Xmas Camp, Porepunkah

Thu 1st Jan.       (see elsewhere for a full description)

January 2004

Sunday 4th       Jindivick (short ride)                                                              Ron Johnston leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Ron’s first lead back on the “beautiful” Bandit. We have heard so much about it, now we get to see it. The route will be via Powelltown to Drouin and back almost the same way, breaking up at Yarra Junction. Expect a round trip of 200 km of tight and twisty roads. Short ride, early finish. Be there.

                        7 pm Whitehorse Inn
