November Who’s News  2003

The MTCV Home Page took 298 hits during November and has taken 18,124 since April 1996. We continue to generate new members via the web. Our ads in the bike magazines are also doing well.

This month two more people joined the Club. Welcome to Sam Sirianni who rejoins after an absence of 6 or 7 years. He still has his Suzuki TL1000S. Also welcome to Peter Rykenberg who joined on last Sunday’s Lavers Hill ride. He normally rides a Yamaha TRX850 but last Sunday was seen pillioning Sarah on an immaculate blue 1984 K100RS with only 40,000 km on the odometer. We wish them both a long and enjoyable Club experience.

The Phillip Island Ride day on Monday the 24th of November was very well attended with 14 members and another six or so well known friends of the MTSCV. Only Mario Ibeas came to grief on his Yamaha R6 in an early wet session, falling off at the very fast Hayshed kink. He walked away with minor bruising but the bike sustained a snapped handlebar and holed engine case, ending his day. Dave Nimmo (GSXR1000) and Will Tran (GSXR600) were the surprise super fast and smooth riders of the day. Greg Hales suffered a little, expecting to convert his fast road riding skills to immediate track speed. It takes time to learn the track and lines and build confidence and speed. The weather was dodgy but fined up in the afternoon providing more than enough track time for all. Tamzin Knight (R6) borrowed Ben’s trailer and offers thanks to those members who assisted her at San Remo to better immobilize her bike. See Liz’s article for more info.

The Points System. The Club Participant of the Year is based on aggregate points accumulated at 1 point per ride, an extra point for leading or being rear rider, and 1 point per Magazine article (maximum 2 per Magazine). It runs till the May AGM. We are already seven months into the 2004 points and at the end of November the top ten points scorers are: Ben Warden (50), Pete Weyermayr (31), Ian Payne (24), Rob Langer (24), Liz Oliver (22), Mark Easterbrook (21.5), Paul Southwell (21),  Greg Hales (21), Kate Stewart (19.5), and Ron Johnston (19).

On the Strathbobie BBQ ride there were two crashes.  First time back after riding with the Club a few times some years ago, Jeff Bishop crashed his brand new GSXR1000 on the back roads leading away from Highlands towards Caveat. He suffered a dislocated shoulder which was popped back in at the Yea Hospital that afternoon. His bike was a technical write-off. On the same corner (gravel) first time rider Mike Grec dropped his Suzuki SV650. He later confirmed a broken finger but was able to ride home. Both riders were wearing jeans and suffered gravel rash. Jeff’s were the Kevlar reinforced Draggin Jean type but he still suffered “burns”. Read all about it in Ian’s write-up. Mike’s were standard jeans and were shredded.

On the Lavers Hill ride, third time rider Tony Raditsis on a blue TRX850 crashed breaking a handlebar. He was unhurt and managed to ride home. We wish all crashers a full and speedy recovery.
