Sunday 6th       Heathcote BBQ lunch (short ride)                                                          Les Leahy leading

                        10.15 am Whittlesea

Les has kindly offered his Heathcote caravan park facilities for use as a BBQ site. The plan is to go for a pleasant ride through the northern ranges eventually finding ourselves in Heathcote around lunchtime. To comply with the ‘bring your own meat’ request, riders will be able to conveniently purchase meat at the local supermarket, open 24 hours, seven days a week. Of course, beverages could also be purchased. Les will look after everything else. Those considering driving should plan to meet the group around 1 pm. This ride would suit a pillion passenger. Expect around 150 leisurely kilometres for the day.

Sunday 20th     Economy Ride, Castlemaine                                                               Ben Warden leading

                        10.15 am Whittlesea

Determining everyones bike’s economy is quite simple: all fill up at the same place, ride the same distance, and fill up again. The person that puts in the least amount of fuel must have the bike with the best fuel economy. If a member, they get their name etched on the Club Economy plaque.  Of course, economy is a function of speed. Typically, the slower you go, the less drag (a function of velocity squared), the better the economy. We ask that riders maintain a minimum speed of the legal limit, to better reflect typical riding economy, and more importantly, to minimise risk. The last thing we want is for bikes to be holding up cars, encouraging unsafe passing manoeuvres. In the past we have stipulated that if the rear rider passes you, you are out! Castlemaine for lunch. Expect around 350 km for the day.

Sunday 27th    Eildon via Torbreck River                                                           Pete Weyermayr leading             10.15 am Yarra Glen

This ride incorporates lots of  tight twisty corners. The route may include up Chum Creek Road and down Myers Creek road to Healesville, and across the Black Spur to Marysville for morning tea and  a splash of fuel. Then on to Taggerty and down the 37 km of uninterrupted motorcycle bliss, looking out for the odd dear hunter. At the bridge, just before the dirt, we’ll regroup before heading back to Eildon for lunch. Then it’s up the Skyline Road and across to Fraser National Park, Alexandra and Yea, regrouping at Kinglake West after the last fling down the Flowerdale road. Expect around 280 km for the day.

August 2003

Sunday 3rd      Drouin via Noojee                                                                                 Tim Walker leading                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

This ride is marked as not suitable for inexperienced riders. This is because there are likely to be a lot of tight, twisty corners on secondary roads. This means bumps, gravel and farmers. Nevertheless, those riding will be rewarded with beautiful scenery, interesting roads, and a challenging riding experience. If you are looking to improve your riding, this is the one. Expect around 400 km for the day.
