February 2003 Who’s News

The MTCV Home Page has taken 386 hits during February and 15,255 since April 1996. We continue to generate new members via the web. Our ads in the bike magazines are also doing well. Check out the Visitor’s Page to keep track of the latest information and gossip. Speaking of which, these two items appeared (very) recently:

On 2 March 2003, Mark Easterbrook ([email protected]) visited the MTCV Home Page and had this to say:

I'm just writing to say thanks to everyone. I go to Queensland for a job soon. Also, last night, 1/3/3, I had an accident on the way back from work: a car hit me from behind on the freeway. I'm OK but the Ducati is very sick. Mike, a rep for Triumph Australia saw the accident and put my bike in his ute and drove me home, so a big thanks to him. Hopefully I'll catch up with some of you sometime in the future. Regards, Mark"

A couple of weeks earlier Mark had sent this snippet:

“I can also confirm that I have got the job in Queensland and will ride up immediately following the Superbikes. I hope to do at least one more ride before I leave but I have a very busy schedule with two trips to Adelaide before I leave. I hope to be along on the ride before the Superbikes.

We thank Mark for his brief stay in the Club. He has been very active on rides and contributions to the magazine as evidenced by his COPY points. See below. I am quite sure he is sore and sorry after his accident, despite claiming to be “okay”. We wish him well in his future endeavours and hope to see him riding soon.

On 17 February 2003, Peter Doak ([email protected]) visited the MTCV Home Page and had this to say:

"I really really miss you guys. MTCV has to be the absolute best bike club on the planet, no contest. Quick update: Penny (with a little help from me) had a baby in March and Lily has just started walking. She is an absolute delight. I haven't got a "real" bike at the moment but I recently picked up an absolute mint 1972 Mach III. I had one new and I am still surprised how much grunt they have got. If any MTCV member visits the South Island of NZ, be sure to look me up.

Seen at the February General Meeting: Ron Johnston, Ian Payne, Ben Warden, Pete Weyermayr, Bruce Saville, Peter Philferan, Derek Atkinson, Rob Langer, Liz Oliver, Tanya Walker, Martin Hastie, Ian Handforth, Jon Riddett, Phil Richards, Kirsten Anderson, Daniel Kosinski, and visitors Marty and Evette.

Email from Kate Stewart received 4th March:

“I just got off the phone from talking to Glenn at Redwing. I've finally bought a Yellow CBR600f4i! Well.... paid a deposit atm. I probably won’t pick it up for a couple weeks due to work commitments and the fact that I'm sporting a strained wrist courtesy of the wayward young colts I'm educating, and the many and varied antics they perform each day.”

The Points System. The Club Participant of the Year is based on aggregate points accumulated at 1 point per ride, an extra point for leading or being rear rider, 1 point per magazine article (maximum 2 per magazine). It runs till the May AGM. After tallying last months points, the leaders are: Ben Warden 101 (Blade), Rob Langer 68.5 (BM1150GS), Ron Johnston 68 (Bandit 1200), Pete Weyermayr 65 (Blade), Liz Oliver 63 (Blade), Ian Payne 49 (Blade), Geoff Jones 39.5 (R1), Mark Easterbrook 35 (Ducati 750SS), Dianne Welsford 32 (CBR600),  Renzo Cunico (R1) and Greg Hales (TL1000) on 25.  Rob and Ron swapped places, Mark moved up a place and Greg slipped into the top ten. Otherwise the status quo was maintained.

Dave Ward is hobbling around on crutches after his knee reconstruction and expects to be back riding in a month or two. We wish him a speed recovery.

Tasmania: Ten people have committed their money and the tickets are bought. Accommodation is booked. Dave Moore has made his own arrangements to get to Tasmania for three people and will join the main group a day later. Similarly, Renzo Cunico is meeting us a day later, making a total of 14 people. We leave at 9 am this Saturday (8th)  if you are looking to wave us off. Boarding around 8.15 am.

Danny Kosinski  rejoined the Club after a few years absence. We have missed his remarkable deeds on his battle scarred VFR750. Welcome back. The Club now has 57 members.

Portland Trip via the Great Ocean Road, ANZAC Weekend, Friday 25th April to Sunday 27th April. Ron Johnston has booked hotel accommodation. See him with your $50 deposit, places are limited.  He reports that there will be a BBQ on Friday and Saturday nights, weather permitting.  On Saturday he plans to visit Mt Gambier.  ANZAC day is a public holiday. Think about booking annual leave as it falls just after Easter.

Mario Ibeas is progressing well after surgery resulting from his recent crash at a Phillip Island ride day. He says he is in no pain and physiotherapy is progressing well, his flexibility excellent. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.
