September 2003                   MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 7th       Pyalong                                                                                                 Kate Stewart leading

                        10.15 am Whittlesea

Our scheduled leader, Liz Oliver, is unavailable to lead this ride. Kate has stepped into the breach. The route incorporates all our favourite roads: from Whittlesea we’ll head north to Flowerdale, Broadford, Pyalong and Lancefield for lunch and fuel after 115 km or so. Then back to Pyalong via Emu Flat, then on to Tallarook, Trawool, Strath Creek to finally break up at Kinglake West. Lots of twisty roads. Please come and support Kate on her first lead. Expect around 230 km for the day with an early finish.

Sunday 14th     Trentham                                                                                                   Ian Payne leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Join the President for a pleasant trip through the hills. From Yarra Glen we’ll head out to Healesville, and up Chum Creek Road  to Toolangi, followed by a short trip up the Melba (watch you speed) to Glenburn from where we’ll make our way across to Flowerdale and Broadford for morning tea. In the afternoon we’ll continue west to Lancefield, Kyneton and Trentham. We may even visit the waterfalls. Back to Whittlesea via Woodend, Mt Macedon and Straw’s Lane,  and Romsey. Expect a round trip of around 300 easy kilometres. Lots of undulating, twisty roads through the low ranges.

Sunday 21st     Toora Wind Farm                                                                                 Ben Warden leading

                        9.30 am Hallam

Toora is 11 km past Foster. It is a relatively long ride, hence the early start; first stop Leongatha if you are chasing the ride.  Julie and I checked out this spectacular array of 13 windmills (aka the Toora Wind Farm) on our way to Sydney earlier in the year. Wind power is very topical at the moment with controversy ranging about another farm to be built along the Great Ocean road. The ride will incorporate many fantastic motorcycle roads. Bring your camera as the views of the ocean and rolling hills, let alone the 30 metre bladed windmills, are quite spectacular. This ride may not suit inexperienced riders and is not recommended for first time Club riders. Expect a lazy 450 km for the day.

Sunday 28th    Eildon Homestead                                                                                Ray Walker leading             10.15 am Yarra Glen

I have a sneaky suspicion that the homestead may be under water after all the recent rain. Given that this ride was planned 4 months earlier, in the middle of the worst drought in recorded history, I think the Committee can be forgiven for false advertising. Nevertheless, I expect Ray to point to the spot where the homestead is once again returned to its watery grave. Plenty of great roads in the vicinity (Spurs, Fraser National Park, Molesworth Road). I expect we’ll break up in Kinglake W. after about 280 km for the day.
