Mario Ibeas
On Tuesday December the 23rd
the Club lost one of its members when Mario Ibeas died as a result of a fatal
car crash. The crash was in fact a double fatality: Mario and a young woman, both backseat passengers, were
killed when the car they were travelling in hit a concrete telegraph pole near
the corner of
Although Mario had only been
in the Club two years he made quite an impression on most people who got to
know him. He was very enthusiastic about motorcycling and was always asking
questions on how to ride better. And even when hospitalized after an
unfortunate bike crash his resolve was to heal quickly so that he would be back
on the bike as soon as possible.
Like many members, there is a great deal we did not
know about Mario:
·
he was Chilean;
·
he had two young sons from a previous relationship aged 8 and 9;
·
he was 35 years of age; and,
·
he was a bit of a party animal.
Mario loved motorcycling and the camaraderie it
bought with it. He had not done much Club road riding recently, instead
concentrating on 'track days' as a way of improving his riding Even so, amongst
the 300 plus people that his funeral attracted, more than a dozen Club members
attended.
The Club has also sent a donation to his family to
do with as Mario may have wanted.
As an indication of his love of motorcycling, the family is seeking permission to allow them to sprinkle his ashes over Phillip Island GP circuit. The family is also seeking any recent photos of Mario members may have. If you have any, please contact Dianne Welsford (mobile 0419-880-637) who will arrange the copying etc.
Although we are saddened by his death, let us celebrate his life and the time we knew him - vale Mario.
