June 2004                              MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 6th       Loch                                                                                                      Ben Warden leading

                        10am Berwick

Note: *Berwick* – new pick up point at Safeway Fuel +, Clyde Road, Berwick, 5th exit after the old one when coming from the city. Check Melways reference 111 C10.  The ride will cover the area bounded by Drouin, Grantville, Wonthaggi and Korumburra. The hardest part is deciding which good roads not to incorporate in to the ride.  This will be a shorter ride given the early onset of darkness but it will be very scenic with regular glimpses of the ocean. Lots of rarely travelled roads. Fantastic riding country, road surface grip conditions excellent, wet or dry. Expect around 350 km for the day.

Sunday 13th     Yea                                                                                                    Paul Southwell leading

                        10am Whittlesea

The route is yet to be fully planned and will depend a little on the prevailing weather. Suffice to say that many good roads will be incorporated. The draft plan is to head out west picking up Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Trawool, Tallarook and Broadford for morning tea after 105 km. Next stop Yea for lunch via Glenaroua, Seymour and Highlands, a further 93 km. We will probably head due south to breakup at Kinglake West or deviate around the Kerrisdale, Strath Creek loop to finish at Kinglake West. All good fun. Expect around 280 km of exciting riding for the day.

Sunday 20th    Alexandra via Broadford                                                                       Greg Hales  leading

                        10am Yarra Glen

From Yarra Glen we’ll head across to Healesville and up Chum Creek Road to Toolangi. At the Highway intersection we’ll head north to Glenburn before cutting inland to Flowerdale, Strath Creek and left to Broadford for first break. After the Yamahas refuel we’ll head up to Seymour, across to Highlands and Yea, then across the Molesworth Road to Alexandra for lunch. Then over Skyline to Eildon and homeward bound via Taggerty, Marysville and the Black Spur to break up in Healesville. A great ride but deserving of the double hash rating ie not suitable for inexperienced or first time Club riders. The sustained technical nature of the ride often catches people out.  Expect around 360 km for the day.

Sunday 7th       Jindivick                                                                                             Ron Johnston leading

                        10am Yarra Glen

The sealing of the Hill end to Noojee Road opens up all sorts of new route possibilities. This ride will take a very interesting route. From Yarra Glen we will head across to Yarra Junction and Noojee, around to Jindivick and back to Drouin for morning tea after some 115 km. From Drouin we’ll work our way east to Trafalgar, head north a bit and then across to Moe and Erica possibly checking out the Thompson Dam wall before lunching in Rawson. Another option is to head directly for Tyers from Erica. From Tyers we’ll head back to Noojee via Willow Grove and Hill End. Break-up at Yarra Junction. Some fine tuning required to sort out fuel and food stops but you have the general idea. Expect 360 km for the day.
