Luke Richardson                  13/12/1966 – 9/10/2004

Tragically, Luke Richardson was killed in a car accident on the 9th of October this year. He was 37 years old.

Luke was a member of our Club, or specifically, the Motorcycle Touring Club of Victoria, as it was then known, on and off for about 9 years, joining in 1989. Six current members and eight former members were amongst the 150 or so people who attended his funeral at Christ Church, Unitt St, Melton on Friday 15th of October at 2.30 pm, and later the grave side and wake. It was great to catch up with the old members, regretfully on such a sombre occasion. It was a late night for some.

Luke was a conscientious rider who was always trying to improve his skills. He remained a staunch supporter of the Club until 1993. During this time he served on the Committee for two years as Assistant Secretary and Secretary. He then dropped out for a while, married dear Stavroula and settled into the routine of working, saving for, and then buying a home. Once the mortgage was under control, he rejoined the Club in 1996. He once again showed his commitment by serving on the Committee in 1997 and 1998.

When Luke joined the MTCV, he was riding a Kawasaki GPX750. Followed a succession of unusual bikes, including the humble Kawasaki GPZ500S, Yamaha XJ600S and the big Yamaha FJ1100. Although these were not “cutting-edge” motorcycles, they had been carefully picked to serve the dual role of daily commuter and Sunday Club bike.

Luke had the largest collection of bike magazines I have ever seen! His collection covered all aspects of motorcycling, with publications from all over the world. They were meticulously maintained with an index on all relevant subjects that he could recite at a moments notice. If by chance one mentioned they were looking to upgrade their bike, a flood of photocopied information on the make would arrive in the mail with highlighted sections on the strengths and/or weaknesses of the model. A follow-up phone call would occur, with more information forthcoming!

Although most current members of the Club would not know Luke, his small contribution has helped us achieve our current status as a premier motorcycling club. For that I am indebted. He was not only a Club member but a good friend who was always there with a smile and ready to help.

On behalf of all members I extend our deepest sympathy to Stav and family.
