The MTCV Home Page took 334 hits during August and has taken 21, 238 since April 1996.  Pete and Liz left a message on the Visitor’s page on the 13th August: "Hi guys - just checking on the crap weather in Vic. It’s hot up here. We are in Kakadu National Park at the moment and it’s 33 degrees. Pete contemplated fishing from the river bank, then we saw five saltwater crocs! Changed his mind after that. See you later. "

There is now a new URL for the webpage: www.mstcv.unimelb.edu.au. The old one still works.

August Social Sip: Ron & Julie Johnston, Enzo Cunico, Ian Payne, Ben & Julie Warden, Bill & Kay Wee, Leslie Luke, Kate Stewart and Pete Pondeljak, Bruce Saville, Martin Hastie and Danny Kosinski. 13 people

Rob Langer has bought a new black R1150GS. He never came to terms with his radical (for BM) R1200GS and sold it, returning to the trusty 1150 format. He flew up to Ballina (near Byron Bay) via Virgin Airlines, bought the bike sight unseen after having it checked out by the local bike shop, and rode it home the next day, some 2,000 km.  The bike had only done 2,000 km, has a 30 litre tank, and looks mint.

August has been the month of holed radiators. First it was Greg Hales on the Trafalgar Ride, retiring hurt. Then last Sunday Matt Clark picked up a stone, followed soon after by Paul Southwell. Read Paul’s article for a good place to take for repairs, as discovered by Greg. It is a family-run, small business that takes care and pride in its work, the radiators always painted up and repaired fast and cheaply.

The Club Participant of the Year is based on aggregate points accumulated at 1 point per ride, an extra point for leading or being rear rider, and 1 point per Magazine article (maximum 2 per Magazine). Attending 1 or more days of a weekend event scores 3 points for leading, 3 for rear riding duties and 2 points for participating. The 2004/5 points table is now a third complete. The top 12 scorers are: Ben Warden (29), Ron Johnston (20), Paul Southwell (19), Peter Weyermayr (15), Ian Payne (14), Nigel Hellyer (13), Robert Langer (12), Martin Hastie (11), Geoff Jones (9), Greg Hales (9), Trevor Harris (9) and Danny Kosinski (9). The big mover of the month was Ron Johnston. See attached spreadsheet. Please note any discrepancies to maintain accuracy.

Email from Dave Skitt, 18th August. “On Sunday I am off to China for a week long business trip and then my wife Marie and my son Matthew are joining me in Beijing. We are having a two week holiday visiting the highlights of China including the Great Wall, Teracotta Warriors, Forbidden City etc.  I'll be back mid September.”  A bit different from Europe or Bali!

Welcome to new member Jason Peters riding a Kawasaki ZX12R.  Living out in the western district we won’t see him often, but have come to know him after his years attending the Club Christmas camp.

Welcome to new member Joanne Nimmo, a regular pillion passenger with husband Wayne on their low flying Hayabusa missile. They live at Melton and run a butchery business. If out that way, drop in.

Note: Whittlesea pickup has disappeared. Now meet at the United service station, first on left as entering town. The new itinerary has been amended to note new starting location.

Thanks to Matt Clark who donated a radiator putty stick to the Emergency Kit after last Sunday’s holey episode.
