Itinerary
Sunday 10th Licola leader required 10 am Berwick
Suggested route is back roads to Drouin, Ellinbank and Moe for morning tea. Then on to Tyers, Heyfield and Licola. Some of the thirstier bikes may need to fuel up at Heyfield as the next 43 km to Licola is very twisty and engine revs may be higher than usual. Back to Melbourne via the same route. As indicated, we are looking for a leader as the advertised one has family commitments. Note: this ride is not suitable for inexperienced or first time Club riders due to the length of the ride. Expect around 450 km for the day.
Weekend Omeo via Mansfield Paul Grosser
leading
16th – 17th 10 am West Gate Shell Service Station
Feel like a good ride
into the hills? Spend a night in a cheap motel or pub? Ride home the next day?
Paul Grosser is planning exactly that, but needs an idea of numbers so that he
can book rooms, most likely twin share at less than $50 per person. A lot of
action for little outlay. Possible route: Yarck, Mansfield, Whitfield, Oxley,
Myrtleford, Ovens, Happy Valley Rd, Mt Beauty, Bright Harrietville. A
trip up to Falls Creek is well worth it. Last time we stayed at the Snowline
Hotel Motel Harrietville. Anywhere in the general area such as Bright,
Porepumkah, Tawonga or Mt Beauty is a possible overnight stopping point.
Next day Hotham,
Omeo, Bruthen, Bairnesdale. A detour up to Dargo is a possibility. Last good
ride before winter sets in. So if you are interested, contact Paul Grosser on 9855
7475 or mobile 0407 353 441. Expect around 800 km home to home. You’ll need a
decent set of tyres as wear is extreme.
Sunday 17th Alexandra Martin
Hastie leading
10 am Yarra Glen
While the lucky ones are gallivanting around the countryside, Martin will be leading an excellent ride around our favourite nearby hills. One route would be out through Flowerdale to Yea and Alexandra via the Molesworth Road. Then across to Eildon and maybe a detour up to Torbreck River. Then back to Eildon for lunch. Home via Marysville and Healesville. Expect around 350 km for the day.
Sunday 24th Heathcote
Paul Southwell leading
10 am Whittlesea
Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford, Pyalong, Lancefield is a variation on a theme. Then north up the Burke and Wills Road to Redesdale, Axedale and Heathcote. Back to Seymour, Strath Creek and break up at Kinglake West. All good roads. Expect around 360 km for the day.
Monday 25th Mt Baw Baw
Rob Langer leading
10 am Yarra Glen
ANZAC Day, a
public holiday and all the shops closed. The only sensible thing to do is to go
for a ride away from the holiday makers. Mt Baw Baw is the destination and is
not suitable for inexperienced or first time Club riders. We have had quite a
few accidents on this road, and usually the inexperienced Club rider. Throw in
the Powelltown Road and maybe a loop into Gippsland, depending on the weather
and participants and it could be big day. Expect 300+ km
Sunday 1st Switzerland Ranges Trevor Harris leading
10 am Whittlesea
Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Highlands, Caveat, Gobur and Yarck is all sealed now. Lots of interesting roads in the Switzerland Ranges, just north of Yea. Trevor is a great leader because he always pland and prerides the route. Expect the unexpected on his ride of around 300 km.
