December 2005 MSTCV Itinerary
Sunday 4th Yarram Ben Warden leading
10 am Berwick
First stop
Korumburra after 115 km via Drouin and the Warragul Rd. Then we’ll head south to
Tarwin Lower and across to Fish Creek and Foster before cutting across the
Highway checking out the Toora wind farm and maybe Agnes Falls before lunching
at Yarram. From Yarram we’ll head north to Gormondale
and Traralgon meandering amongst the surreal power stations. Plenty of options
for return route depending on participants and time. Expect around 500 km for
the day. This ride is not for the inexperienced rider and will not suit a first
time rider. Tyre
wear will be accelerated.
Sat. 10th Free Club Xmas BBQ lunch, Fairfield Park, Melways reference
30 J12
12 noon – 4 pm
As per recent years, the free BBQ will be held at its usual spot on Heidelberg Road,
opposite the children’s playground. Parking is sometimes an issue, particularly
if the weather is kind. The street is the best and closest, otherwise there is
a car park at the west end of the park, or in the side street at the east end.
Bring chairs, an esky of ice if so inclined, and your own beverages. Only cordial
will be supplied. The usuall array of gourmet
hamburgers and sausages, Dave Ward supplied bread, and fruit salad will be
served. We often find ourselves rowing a gentleman’s skiff down at the boat
house after the event.
Sunday 11th Lake Eppalock leader required
10
am Whittlesea
The printers
cunningly amalgamated this ride and the next into the one ride causing us all
sorts of grief. The bottom line is that this page is correct, the web page is
correct and the itinerary card is wrong. So don’t go to Berwick! A
suggested route is across to Pyalong and Lancefield for morning tea. Then up
the Burke and Wills Road
to Redesdale, left to Eppalock Dam wall and Knowsley, then back to Heathcote
for lunch via the twisty road down to Mia Mia. Home via Tooborac, Emu Flat, and Pyalong
breaking up in Kinglake West. A mixture of great roads and lesser bumpy ones. Expect
around 320 km for the day.
Sunday 18th Korumburra Paul Grosser leading
10
am Berwick
Loch first stop
via Drouin South and Poowong. Then we’ll continue south to Archies
Creek, around to Woolamai and Kilcunda then up to Kongwak and Korumburra for
lunch. After lunch we’ll head north to Warragul and on to Noojee and Powelltown
via a few minor roads. Each hop will be about 100 km in length, so expect
around 350 km for the day. Lots of twisty roads, good tyres
essential. Ride suits experienced riders only as road surfaces often
leave a lot to be desired and signage is optional.
Mon. 26th Christmas Camp, Porepunkah – see
elsewhere for details
- Tues 3rd Jan.
January
Sunday 1st
Eildon Nigel Hellyer
leading
10 am Yarra Glen
Across to
Healesville, up Chum Creek Road,
down Myers Creek Road,
over the Black Spur and on to Marysville for morning tea should see the tyres
well and truly scrubbed in. Next stop
Eildon via Thornton and the Torbreck River road. After lunch we’ll cruise along
Skyline Road
with spectacular views of Lake
Eildon to Alexandra,
across to Molesworth and Yea, then down to Kinglake for final farewells. Expect
around 280 km for the day. Tyre wear very heavy
on Torbreck
River road so be warned.
