July 2005                     MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 10th     Pyalong                                                                                                     Ian Payne leading                             10 am Whittlesea

Follow Ian on his Fireblade on well worn Club roads. First stop Lancefield via Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Trawool, Tallarook and Pyalong. Lots of smooth sweepers with a bumpy section across to Tallarook. By this stage you will have completed 115 km and may need next fuel to reach the lunchtime stop of Daylesford. But first we’ll travel north to Baynton, then across to Kyneton and around Coliban and Lauriston reservoirs, maybe stopping at the dam walls for a squiz before picking up the Spring Hill twisties to Trentham Falls for another quick stop for a photo. After lunch it’s on to Blackwood and Greendale picking up the highway at Bacchus Marsh to break-up at Diggers Rest. Expect around 350 km.

Sunday 17th     Flowerdale Pub Lunch                                                                         Lyn Duncan  leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Join Lyn on her first ever lead. We’ll head east around Yan Yean Reservoir and Arthurs Creek to St Andrews and up to Kinglake. Then across to Mt Slide and a smidge of highway to Glenburn before turning left to Flowerdale. Up and over fantastic Junction Hill before stopping to regroup in Yea after a fun 95 km. More good roads to follow with a jaunt up to Highlands and back to Seymour, back around the dangerous highway to Trawool before heading south to Strath Creek and on to biker friendly Flowerdale Pub with a cosy open fire, arriving at 1 pm. Note that there is no fuel in Flowerdale, and Whittlesea is approximately 35 km away. Expect around 190 km for the day.

Sunday 24th    Trafalgar via Reefton Spur                                                                   Rob Langer  leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Across the back way to Healesville and over the Black Spur to Marysville, then up to Cumberland Junction and down the Reefton to Warburton after a brisk 100 km. Wear warm clothes and water proofs as it is likely to be foggy and very cold with possibly snow around Cumberland Junction. After a short break we’ll head to Powelltown and through Noojee to Willow Grove and Trafalgar for late lunch. A possibility is to head south to Mirboo North and loop back to Drouin depending on time, rider experience and prevailing weather conditions. Obviously this ride suits the enthusiast and is not suitable if it is your first time with the Club, due to the technical nature of the roads with little room for miscalculation. But for the diehards this will be a rewarding ride around 400 km for the day. Watch for snow traffic.

Sunday 31st    Eildon                                                                                                 Martin Hastie leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

From Whittlesea we’ll head north to Kinglake West and Flowerdale where we’ll cut across to Glenburn before picking up the highway heading for Yea. We’ll duck around the Murundindi loop before first stop at Yea for late morning tea. After the break we’ll head across to Fraser National Park via the glorious Molesworth road and across the Dam Wall and up Mt Pinninger to the lookout before back into Eildon for lunch. After lunch we’ll have a leisurely cruise across to Thornton, down to Buxton and Marysville before before the final fling across the Black Spur to break up in Healesville after 200 km for the day.

August 2005

Thurs.  4th       Social Sip, 7 pm Marks Place

Corner of Grattan and Swanston Streets, City

Sunday 7th       Mirboo North                                                                           Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Berwick

Back roads parallel to the highway to Drouin before turning south with ever improving roads to Poowong and Loch for first food stop and fuel after 110 km. Then zig-zagging south finding ourselves with the occasional unexpected views of the sea  down to Kilcunda and then working our way on seldom travelled roads to Kongwak and back to Korumburra for late lunch after 120 km or so. We’ll head back directly to Nilma (avoiding Warragul lights and suburbia) and Crossover before deciding whether to head back the Powelltown route to Launching Place or more directly to Tynong via Jindavick. Conditions and rider enthusiasm will decide. Ride not for feint hearted. Expect 450 plus km for the day. Good tyres essential.
