With no leader on this ride, the three of us decided that we would take matters into our own hands. We all had turns at leading, rear riding duties and thought if we all did a write up we could all receive full club points for this ride.

Eagerly waiting at Whittlesea it became more obvious that Ian our lead rider was absent. Being the first day of daylight savings I think a slight miscalculation may have been made? Hopefully Ian is safe and well.

(Despite strenuous attempts, the Committee was unable to source a leader for this ride with all potential leaders either on the Towong long weekend ride, overseas (Trevor Harris), or otherwise committed. An email to the members earlier in the week elicited no response, as did a series of follow up phone calls. It is the first such occurrence of no person being able to lead for a decade or two. In the good ol’ days, a leader was appointed on the day from the participants, and the route worked out on the fly. We are a bit more organized now.  …Ed.)

Tony had a map and between the three of us we began planning our route. Joel led us past Flowerdale, Broadford, around Pyalong and into Lancefield for our first stop where we discussed further travels.

Today was overcast and windy but, thankfully, no rain about. Lancefield was extremely windy as usual, but it gave us time out, and time to plan more of the day. Kyneton was decided as lunch stop, although I did mention Trentham for some unknown reason. Tony now led us back up the road where we turned left at the Burke and Wills track. Approximately 23 km’s down the road we turned left again and headed through Sidonia  where we stopped at Kyneton for lunch.

I went in search for some good coffee while Joel and Tony planned the rest of our journey home.

Conclusion for the day was for me to lead the group home. Considering that I mentioned Tentham in our discussions a couple of times, we ended up there and turned back through East Trentham. I was a little sketchy with the roads around here so Tony took over the lead and directed us through Ashbourne and Woodend. Heading into Romsey, it was funny to see Joel thinking he was riding a horse, overtaking us while whipping the pants off his bike.

As the road narrowed through Romsey,  there were a few kilometers of  road under construction. Out of Wallan, I asked if we could do an extra lap of Eden Park twisties, which finished our ride for the day.

Departure at Whittlesea  saw us completing 290 km’s with no incidents.
