Balls 10th Anniversary Party       Saturday 13th August, 2005

Although not an official club outing, we received an email from Cassandra Solomon inviting members to Balls High Performance Motorcycle Tuning in Sunshine to celebrate their 10th anniversary. This business was established by member Ron Solomon and specializes in performance motorcycle tuning on predominantly Suzuki and Yamaha motorcycles.

Ron has proved very capable in this regard and can achieve large horsepower increases without sacrificing reliability, and interestingly, all without a dyno. His ‘seat-of-the-pants’ diagnostics and remapping give great results. In fact, due to Ron’s all-round motorcycle knowledge, he now appears regularly on Bike Torque (7pm Tuesday nights, Channel 31) and apart from talking on all things motorbikes, he has given the Club a good wrap: "Ride every Sunday, rain hail or shine”, well organized, know the roads, good riders, that sort of stuff.

Through the marvel of email, the club managed a good turnout to help Ron celebrate this business milestone:-

Breht Emmerson and Libby                                                       Wayne and Joanne Nimmo

A few of us were fortunate enough to get a personalized tour of Ron’s workshop and also a look at his handy work on his own and client’s motorcycles.

Some of the highlights;

  • Yours truly winning a prize in the raffle
  • A client arriving on a classic Vincent motorcycle
  • In impromptu mono and burnout comp in the street
  • An abundance of food and great anniversary cake

This was a very successful day with a good turnout of members. It also gave us an opportunity to catch up with others of the motorcycling fraternity. Interestingly, while talking to Wayne Nimmo regarding his son David’s motorcycle racing, Wayne confessed to having a go at it himself! It seems after being at the track so often to support David he got the urge and happened upon a CBR600 race-bike for sale. It must have been fate, according to Wayne, as the bike was sponsored by the MFB (Metropolitan Fire Brigade) which could quite easily stand for Melton Family Butchers, Wayne’s  business.

One of Ron’s customers showing what Balls Performance Bikes is really about:

Balls Motto:-

Side effects from the increased performance to your motorcycle include jealousy and envy from your mates and others on the road. Will also cause increased heart rate every time you crack the throttle.
BALLS BIKES are not for the faint hearted.

I would just like to thank Ron and Cassandra for the opportunity to share in their celebration and wish them many more successful years in business.

Who’s Bruised

Martin Hastie crashed his ‘Bird  while leading the Eildon Ride on Sunday 31st July. It is all fixed now though crooked stickers are proving a sore point and may keep the bike off the road for another 3 weeks.

Breht Emmerson crashed last Sunday on the Walhalla ride – see Lyn’s writeup. Front wheel lockup on 16 inch shod CBR900 coming down the steep twisties leading into Powelltown saw the bike hit the embankment hard with lots of cosmetic fairing and tank damage though the bike would have been rideable except for the holed clutch cover. Breht walked away completely unscathed thanks to full leathers, back protector and good boots and gloves, and good luck. Mind you he is pretty sore and sorry a few days later. He remembers my back wheel flying past his head as I took evasive action.

Dave Moore is down for a full knee reconstruction after being diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament thanks to an off road trail bike accident earlier in the year.  He will join Dave Ward who also had a knee reconstruction and later a broken leg, again care of trail bike accidents.
