On 18 January 2006, Ian Payne visited the MTCV Home Page and had this to say:
"On Sunday 15th of January club member Peter Parissis (blue YZF1000) crashed heavily at Longwarry North while enroute to Jindivick. Peter sustained critical injuries and was air lifted to hospital where he remains in intensive care. I will file updates as they come to hand. Ian"

Monday 16th – spoke to Peter’s father Cosmos who informed me his son was on life support.

Shane Hindle crashed his CBR900
on the Alpine Way 3.5 km west of Dead Horse Gap (near Thredbo) on Friday 27th of January. His injuries include two broken ribs, torn muscle and bone from left
shoulder, and a pulled groin muscle. He can only sleep on his back, just walk, and lives on Panadeine Forte. Three nights in
Martin Hastie notes the following convention.
It is becoming common practise for people to record important contact
details in the mobile under the acronym "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) or even have such details in their wallets. He also notes that apart from the normal “000” emergency number, “112” will find any mobile phone carrier in the area, even if the mobile has been locked! What a brilliant
idea.

The MSTCV Home Page took a record 600 hits during January and has taken
27,729 since April 1996. I have added 103 photos from the Christmas Camp at Porepunkah.
There is some duplication which will be fixed soon. More photos from Towong
to be added as time permits. Thanks to Peter Feistl for his many excellent
photos.
Julie Johnston has a bought a new
silver Hyundai Accent, picking it up last Monday. I am sure she will enjoy
driving a reliable car from now on.
A few days after the last January meeting Ben Warden, with his editor hat on, sent the following email:
Last months magazine was put together in extreme
haste - 2 days - after the Xmas Camp at Porepunkah. Thanks to all those who
contributed at short notice, particularly Lyn who contributed three articles
and Ian who covered the Club Camp from start to finish. The magazine was the
full 18 pages worth of exciting reading but a few important things were missed:
1. The Committee is putting together a new exciting
itinerary for the period February to May and is looking for leaders and
destinations. If you have suggestions please notify any of the Committee asap. We will be doing the
planning this Thursday night - ie tomorrow. I have
input from Paul Grosser and Dave Ward at the moment, thanks.
2. The next meeting is a
general meeting at the Club Hall, not a Social Sip. Check the web page for more
details. Start time 8.15 pm, Theatrette,
3. There was a major error in the Attendance Points
table, which no-one has picked up yet. The last two rides were not added to the
totals which makes a difference of 2 or 3 points to various people. Attached is
a correct version. The copy on the web is also correct but difficult to read -
the destinations get corrupted and I haven't figured out how to fix. Similarly,
the version in the magazine is also difficult to read due to the small point
size. Hence, enjoy this digital copy.
4. The Club Camp (27 members and friends) and
following Social Sips (24 members and friends) were huge successes based on
numbers. We intend to go back to the same caravan park next year, so book your
site now. Un-powered sites should be organised through Ian to get the benefit
of volume booking, normally halving the site costs per night. If you walk in
off the street and pay at the gate, you will pay full price.
5. I have added some photos from the Camp but the
program crashed part way through and hence only the big files are up at the
moment. I should have it fixed in a day or so. You'll need a broadband
connection to view as some of the files are 3 Mbyte
or larger! Thanks to Peter Feistl who captured a lot of interesting shots
and handed me a CD at the Social Sip. A combination of our shots will be
displayed. There will be over 100 photos.
The
February itinerary is up on the home page with
March, April and May to follow shortly. Our printer has gone bust and hence
card format itineraries will be late arriving. There are many exciting events
in this special 50th Club
Anniversary year including a photo-shoot, weekends away and lots of good rides.

Day trip where he sampled a few bikes. “I have decided to upgrade the Blackbird
to something lighter – by about 55kg. The lighter, smaller bikes are so much
easier to ride and lots more fun. So look out for me on a Suzuki 750/1000 in the
upcoming months!
The Club Participant of the Year is based on aggregate points accumulated at 1 point per ride, an extra point for leading or being rear rider, and 1 point per Magazine article (maximum 2 per Magazine). Attending one or more days of a weekend event scores 3 points for leading, 3 for rear riding duties and 2 points for participating. After eight months the scores are: Ben Warden (75.5), Lyn Duncan (61), Ian Payne (55), Paul Southwell (45), Ron Johnston (39), Ern Reeders (37.5), Joel Haley (27.5), Peter Feistl (27), Breht Emmerson (27) and Martin Hastie (23). No change to the top ten people, though Martin is falling through the field. It was a big month for Paul accumulating 11 points.
As part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations, consideration is being given to purchasing T shirts emblazoned with the Club logo and name. Designs are being sort, or even just ideas for designs. The Club has had various name changes: White Horse Scooter Club, MSCAV, MTCV, MSTCV. Maybe a timeline on the back of the shirt, logo on the front? Any help from the members would be much appreciated. Of course, these would be limited edition. We are thinking black and white T-shirts.
The future of the itinerary card is under review. With the rapid expansion of the internet and its availability, the need for itineraries has diminished drastically. We have cut back on the numbers being printed form 2000 to 1500 to 1000, and even now we have at least 500 left over. Maybe all we need is a business style card with a few words and the web address. Feedback is sought. This period’s itinerary will still be printed, albeit a couple of weeks late.
Please read the MSTCV Risk Management Strategy draft paper. It’s timing is very appropriate. We need feedback from the members. Feel free to contact any of the Committee to discuss. This version is only a draft and is meant as the starting point for discussion.
