The weekend ride calendar suggested it was Paul Grosser’s ride to Lake Eppalock. Instead Lyn Duncan lead us up to Heathcote for lunch. We met up at Whittlesea where Lyn delivered the required pre-ride talk and a tyre inspection was conducted. Weather conditions were very pleasant with no threatening clouds or winds.

Lyn had decided that the ride would take a different route than normal by going back down the highway to Yan Yean and cutting across to St Andrews. This allowed all the riders to warm the sides of their tyres by heading up the mountain goat track to Kinglake. From here we headed towards familiar territory of Kinglake West, Flowerdale, Strath Creek and on to Broadford for our first break.

After a bit of a relax and chat it was mount up and move out towards Lancefield via Pyalong. Just before Lancefield Lyn swung right up the Burke and Wills Track. The first half of the Burke and Wills Track is in great condition with an excellent set of corners about 7 km’s in. However the second half to Mia Mia is open and straight and is good for checking how well you have set up your suspension because the road is very rough.

We turned right at Mia Mia, and then immediately left via a little road that skirts the east side of Lake Eppalock heading to Heathcote. For all you that are into water sports it looks like you can water ski on the lake again.Les Leahy was in Heathcote to welcome us, along with a lunch break.

Following lunch, we cruised down the highway to Tooborac, turned right and headed to Emu Flat, turned left and headed across to Pyalong picking up the Seymour Road to Tallarook and  Trawool. A bit more highway work then down to Strath Creek where we turned left and headed back to Kinglake West via Flowerdale for an official finish. Completed approximately 360 kms for the day’s riding, with no incidents. Thanks Lyn for leading at short notice.
