July 2006                     MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 9th       Eildon via Torbreck River                                                            Breht Emmerson leading

10 am Yarra Glen

From the Original Café we’ll proceed across to Healesville, up Chum Creek Rd to Toolangi along those smooth twisty roads and then down Myers Creek Road being very careful. Then over the Black Spur to Narbethong and on to Marysville where there is Premium fuel. Morning tea after 77 km. After cashing in those coffee vouchers it’s back on the bikes and heading north to Buxton, Taggerty and Thornton. Then down the Jamieson Rd until it reaches dirt. Once we all arrive safely its back to Eildon for lunch at the Eildon Pub. Total km so far: 187. After lunch we’ll head up Mt Pinninger to enjoy the spectacular view, then back across the dam wall and around Skyline overlooking Fraser National Park and on to Alexandra and the fantastic Whanregarwen (Molesworth) road to Yea. Finish at Kinglake West after another 114 km making 301 km for the day.  Sounds excellent.

Sunday 16th     Licola via Macalister River                                                                   Peter Feistl leading

                        10 am Berwick

The planning for this ride must manage many variables. Even in a straight line it is a long way, yet we are near the shortest and weakest day light of the year. Many good roads abound and choices have to be made. Fuel stops are awkward and breaks time consuming, yet necessary. The joys of leading. One possible route is parallel to the highway to Longwarry, then on to Labertouche, Jindivick and the Old Sale road to Moe for first break. Then on to Tyers, Heyfield, Licola, Macalsiter River and back to Licola for lunch. Great roads, fuel and food stops awkward. Then back to Heyfield and Tyers. Do we go to Walhalla? We’ll probably head back to Hill End and Noojee to break up at Yarra Junction. Big ride, late finish, good tyres essential. Last time plenty of dramas with punctures and running out of fuel. Be there.

Sunday 23rd    Flowerdale Pub                                                                                      Lyn Duncan leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Last year we had a monstrous turnout for this ride, the weather uncharacteristically warm and lots of people headed up to Flowerdale in their cars. The riders will leave Whittlesea and head across to Yan Yean, Arthurs Creek and pick up the twisty St Andrews Road to Kinglake. Right turn for a sedate journey to Toolangi picking up the Melba Highway to Glen Burn. Then across to Flowerdale and over Junction Hill for our first break in Yea. After morning tea we’ll head up the Highlands Road and across to Seymour, then on towards Pyalong finding the back way into Broadford. On to Strath Creek and back to Flowerdale Pub for lunch and hot open fire. The ride will end here. Expect around 180 km for the day.

Sunday 30th     Daylesford                                                                                          Trevor Harris leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Leaving Whittlesea we will take Trevor's current 'Heading North' route of Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Kerrisdale and Tallarook to Broadford for our first break.  The next section will let us earn our lunch break in Daylesford as we travel via Pyalong, Emu Flat (1.3 km of good dirt), Baynton, Kyneton and Glenlyon.  We will be cruising for the final 15 km of this leg on a main road. When we have had our fill of taking in the sights, sounds and smells of Daylesford, its back to where we started via Woodend, Romsey and Wallan.  Yep, we are finishing in Whittlesea. Expect around 360 km for the day.
