March 2006                          MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 5th       Powelltown (short ride)                                                                        Ben Warden leading

10 am Yarra Glen, then 1 pm 390 Burwood Highway

The Phillip Island World Superbikes are on this weekend and the plan is to do a short, exciting ride followed by a BBQ at Rob Langer’s house where we can enjoy a lounge chair and the big screen without the boring trip home. The ride is out through Powelltown, Neerim South and Jindivick, then back along the highway for an efficient trip back to Rob’s. Expect around 220 km for the day.

Sunday 12th     Brisbane Ranges                                                                                   Geoff Jones leading

10 am West Gate Shell Servo

Down the freeway (watch out for cameras) and off at Werribee, past the You Yangs and out to Anakie Junction, then down and around to Maude, Steiglitz and Meredith along fire damaged countryside, improving visibility markedly. Then across the Durdidwarrah road, back to Anakie Junction (completely circumnavigating the Brisbane Ranges) and up to Bacchus Marsh. On to Myrniong, Greendale, Blackwood, Trentham, Springhill, and Kyneton before heading south to Mt Macedon and Gisborne for lunch.  Depending on how we are going for time we may head across to Riddells Creek, Clarkefield and Wild Dog Road to break up at Bulla. Expect around 320 km for the day. It will be worth it.

Mon. 13th         Korumburra                                                                             Paul Grosser leading

10 am Berwick

Labour Day public holiday in Victoria so a shortish ride is planned. From Berwick we’ll run parallel to the highway to Longwarry, across to Jindivick and Neerim, then down to Drouin and on to Loch for morning tea. We’ll continue south after the break along the spectacular Wonthaggi Road before working our way through obscure roads around to Kongwak and Korumburra. As we’ve only covered 57 km we’ll continue on to Warragul for lunch. After lunch we’ll work north finding our way across to the Crossover twisties and on to Neerim and  Powelltown to break-up at Yarra Junction. Lots of twisty roads. This ride may not suit inexperienced or first time Club riders. Expect around 290 km for the day.

Sunday 19th     Mirboo North                                                                                      Ben Warden  leading

10 am Berwick

Drouin, Lardner, Korumburra first stop. Then Arawata (3 km of hard packed, sandy, dirt road), Leongatha, Dumbalk, Mirboo, Boolara, Mirboo North. By this stage Suzukis are on well onto reserve and lunch is a welcome stop.  Road conditions up until this point are either fantastic or bad, depending on when the surface was last repaired. After lunch it’s the Hallston loop back to Mirboo North, then north to Trafalgar. If the weather is kind and the riders fit, we’ll push on to Hill End and Noojee, breaking up at Powelltown. Otherwise Old Sale Road, Crossover, Jindivick, breakup at Robin Hood on the highway. A long, hard ride. Best roads possible. Twenty years of fine tuning route. Not for inexperienced riders.

Sunday 26th     Reefton via Cockatoo                                                                   Breht Emmerson leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Up Chum Creek, down Myers Creek, on to Woori Yallock and Cockatoo before heading back to Seville for morning tea and a visor clean. Then along the Highway to Warburton, around the Reefton stopping in Marysville for lunch at the Bakery. Then back to Healesville, up Myers Creek Rd and on to Kinglake,  then down the St Andrews Rd to finish at Kangaroo Ground. Expect around 290 km for the day. Be there.

April

Sunday 2nd      Mt Baw Baw                                                                                         Lyn Duncan leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Noojee for morning tea to get those energy levels up ready for the next 100 km of twisty roads up Mt Baw Baw and back. Concentration is paramount as these roads are very demanding, technically difficult and have little or no runoff. 4WDs are a problem. Only the bike fit will be willing to do another loop south towards Warragul and back to Powelltown. Expect around 280 km for the day.
