MSR Itinerary
December 2009
Sunday 6th Mt Baw Baw Ron Johnston leading
10 am
Berwick
From Berwick we'll head around through Harkaway and across to Upper Beaconsfield, Cockatoo, Pakenham Upper, Gembrook, Hoddles Creek, Powelltown and Noojee for first break after
115 km. You'll need to get fuel here as the next stop; Neerim South, is just
out of range for most bikes. After the break we'll head up Mt Baw Baw for the first time this
season, then back down to Icy Creek turning left for Hill End and Willow Grove to regroup after 113 km. Not sure if there
are lunch facilities here but certainly brilliant roads to this point, though
not as intense as Mt Baw Baw.
After the Old Sale Road it’s on to the Crossover sweepers to Neerim South and
around to Jindivick to finish at the Longwarry North servo after another 56 km.
Roughly 285 hard km for the day, but worth every corner. Good tyres essential. This
ride is not suitable for inexperienced riders or first time Club riders.

Sunday 13th Highlands Geoff Jones leading
10 am Yarra Glen
Geoff was asleep when I rang him so here’s my best
guess of where he might take us: across
to Healesville, Black Spur and Marysville, Buxton, Taggerty and Eildon for
morning tea. Then across Skyline Road
through Fraser National Park to Alexandra, up the highway to Yarck and then on to Gobur, Caveat,
Highlands and Seymour
for lunch. A number of options for the last leg present themselves, but maybe
Glenaroua, Pyalong, Lancefield, Romsey, Wallan will get the nod. All good roads including spectacular scenery
with everything from boulder strewn volcanic plains to temperate rain forest,
grazing country to mountain ranges. A lazy 360 km for the day.
Be there.
Sunday 20th Tarra Bulga National
Park, Yarram Dennis Lindemann leading
10 am Berwick
First stop Moe via Jindivick and the Old Sale Road for morning tea after 110
km. Then out to Tyers before turning south to Traralgon, and over the Princes
Highway, past the Power Station and up the hills to Traralgon South and the
fire ravaged mountains to lunch at picturesque Balook. On to Yarram for fuel along very tight and
twisty sections of the Grand Ridge
Road before returning to Traralgon via the Hyland Highway, a fantastic
55 km of uninterrupted flowing sweepers through the Great Dividing
Range. We'll probably regroup at Tyers before pushing on to Longwarry
North and break-up after 380 km or so. Good tyres
essential. This ride is not suitable for
inexperienced riders or first time Club riders.
Sat. 26th Club Christmas Camp, Mt Buffalo Caravan Porepunkah
to Sat. 2nd Telephone 5756-2235 for a powered camping site or to
book a cabin. Let Ian Payne know if you want an unpowered
site. See elsewhere for more information.
