MSR   Itinerary                      February 2009

Sunday 8th      Lavers Hill via the Great Ocean Road                                                 Cliff Peters leading

10 am West Gate Shell Servo

Cliff will lead us on his favourite and well worn route towards the old farm at Portland on his new weapon of choice, the mighty ZX10. First stop Moriac for morning tea, then on to Apollo Bay (fuel for most) and Lavers Hill for lunch at the top shop.  Then back to Apollo Bay, left at Skenes Creek to Forrest, Deans Marsh and back to Moriac for fuel and a breather.  Take it easy on the straights and through the towns. Then back to Lara to break-up next to the highway.  This ride is not suitable for first time club riders. Not much change out of 500 km.

Sunday 15th    Mt Baw Baw                                                                                      Misho Zrakic leading 10 am Yarra Glen

Where to get lunch on this ride is always a puzzle. The plan is to head for Noojee directly and have a substantial morning tea (carbohydrate load). Then we’ll head up to Mt Baw Baw along 50 km of ever tighter twisty roads. After enjoying the cool climate of the mountain we’ll plunge back to the heat turning left through even better rising twisty roads to Hill End. From here we’ll head south picking up the Old Sale Road back to Neerim South for late lunch. By this stage a beer and the couch will look pretty enticing so we’ll make our way along more great motorcycle roads to finish at Powelltown. Lots of danger on this ride, the road surface of variable quality and the runoff nil!  Hence, this ride is not suitable for first time Club riders, so don’t bring a friend! Expect around 280 hard kilometres for the day.

Sunday 22nd   Eildon                                                                                                     Peter Jones leading

10 am Whittlesea

From Whittlesea we’ll head north to Flowerdale, Yea, Molesworth and Alexandra for lunch. Then on to Eildon via Fraser National Park. Lots of options abound at this point. Maybe left at the top roundabout and down into Fraser National Park and right along to the beautiful parklands, or down the Hobbs Bay Road to experience the go-cart-like road – very narrow, undulating and twisty. Or perhaps a trip across the dam wall or even a look at millionaire’s row at the boat ramp. Maybe a trip up to Mt Pinninger for spectacular views. So many good roads, so little time!  Home via Taggerty, Marysville and the Black Spur to finish at Healesville. Expect around 280 km for the day depending on route chosen.

March 2009

Sunday 1st      World Superbikes, Phillip Island                                                     Ken Goederee leading

Rather than making your own way down the boring highway to Phillip Island, Ken has devised a slightly longer route to pick up some of the nearby excellent roads. From Berwick we’ll head for Drouin and Loch and then pick up the Wonthaggi road for 16 km before returning to the highway at Anderson.
