President’s Report – July 2009

This last 12 months has seen the Club continue to prosper with noticeable increases in ride attendance and a modest increase in membership. Although our membership tends to hover in the high 70s, only a small portion of these members are regular Sunday riders. This is no doubt due to work or family commitments but by having a weekly ride it enables those members to still participate every now and then. Having a weekly ride does take more time and effort to plan, but it does allow us to retain these members.

Our biennial trip to Tasmania was another overall success, although there were some ‘lessons learnt’ with regard to rest stops, accommodation and the serious crash of Kurn Bridgeman. The event still provokes such a large attendance that it will remain a club destination for many years to come!

During the year we lost a long time supporter of the club, Kirsten Anderson. Kirsten, a past Social Secretary of the club and partner of Rod Langer, passed away much too soon and we will all miss this petite, witty and very unique person.

Membership Numbers:  Even in this supposed ‘recession’ motorcycling is still as popular as ever. But with this increase in popularity comes an increase in law enforcement! Fortunately, as a group, we rarely come under the intense scrutiny of the law. This could be seen as ‘good luck’ but more so our broad knowledge of the roads, experience in sports motorcycling, vigilance and safety-in-numbers have all been factors in keeping us out of trouble. Another very good reason for our longevity in this very fickle market.

Social Events: Although Mark’s Place is still popular, there have been calls for a change but until a similar place can be found it will remain our regular social sip venue. Likewise, the Tower Hotel  has proved to be ideal for our formal meetings as it offers good food, pleasant surroundings and a private annex ‘at no cost’ where we can conduct necessary meetings.

Membership Fees: With our relatively stable membership and good financial management, the committee have agreed to retain the same annual subscription as last year!

Club Magazine: Our magazine continues to impress with its interesting ride reports, colour photo cover and motorcycling related articles. That it is produced to such a high standard is a tribute to the Editor whose many hours of hard work ensure a very cost effective publication.

Committee: I thank the current committee for their dedication and endeavours over the last 12 months:-
