Provisional  MSR  Itinerary                      March 2009

Due to the continuing fires, these destinations are accurate at the time of printing. If routes and destinations have to be modified, please monitor the 2009 Rides page on the Club web site. As a basic premise, we don’t expect the ride start point to vary from that displayed here.

Sunday 8th      Lavers Hill via the Great Ocean Road                                                Geoff Jones leading

10 am West Gate Shell Servo

Geoff has stepped into the breach as many of the regular leaders are away enjoying the roads and sights in Tasmania. He will lead us on the usual well worn route to Moriac for morning tea, then on to Apollo Bay (fuel for most) and Lavers Hill for lunch at the top shop.  Then back to Apollo Bay, left at Skenes Creek to Forrest, Deans Marsh and back to Moriac for fuel and a breather.  Take it easy on the straights and through the towns. Then back to Lara to break-up next to the highway.  This ride is not suitable for first time club riders. Not much change out of 500 km.

Sunday 15th    Mt Donna Buang                                                                              Ken Goederee leading 10 am Berwick

Ken is a local Dandenong Ranges lad and knows lots of back roads. Be sure to accompany him on an interesting ride on roads rarely travelled. Give your heart a workout and climb the tower and enjoy the view back to Melbourne – on a clear day. Expect around 280 km for the day. Again, Ken is minding the fort while the majority of the Committee and other regular riders are in Tasmania. It is important that members support these (GOR and Donna Buang) rides so that the leader is not overwhelmed by an influx of new riders lacking corner marking skills.  Please attend if possible.

Sunday 22nd   Boolarra                                                                                               Ben Warden leading

10 am Berwick

The classic Mirboo North ride with loops within loops. We may catch glimpses of the fire damaged areas around Boolara South and the Grand Ridge Road.  First stop Korumburra if you are chasing the ride, then lunch at Mirboo North. The Hallston loop offers the chance to skip 60 km of twisties and have a breather for 35 minutes or so before rejoining the main group. Three kilometres of dirt around Arawata. Ride not for the inexperienced but manageable with breaks. Expect around 410 km for the day.

Sunday 29th    Licola                                                                                                       Cliff Peters leading

10 am Berwick

This will be our first venture into potentially fire ravaged areas north of the Princes Highway. The route will include nearly all back roads with first stop at Tyers for fuel. If you fill here you won’t need to refill until returning to Tyers after 200 km or so, depending if we continue through Licola and another further 16 km steep climb into the hills offering spectacular mountain views. Expect around 450 km of brilliant roads for the day. Not for the inexperienced rider as the roads are technically difficult and very unforgiving. Do not bring a friend or first time rider.
