Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier (OEM) 140 front,
180 rear. Grip well but wear fast in centre. |
|

Heated grips, TomTom mount. Radiator guard.
Bar end weights. No plans for anything else. |
|
What drew you towards this bike? |
I wanted a naked bike but didn’t like the low spec and quality of the
Suzuki SV650, GSR etc. The Triumph brand has a lot of history and it doesn’t
look like all the others. |
|
Best Features |
Engine sound and response is fantastic. Brakes / suspension are a big
improvement over the standard model. Handling is very responsive. Seating position and comfort is great.
Attention to design detail and quality is great, angled valve caps, polished
bolts, progressive shift light. Looks different. |
|
Worst Features |
It’s no tourer. Longer club rides leave you beaten around by the wind
and hard suspension. 110kph is fine but 130+ is only bearable for short
stints. Also standard there was a fair bit of vibration through the bars, but
it’s fixed now with the weights. Throttle is very abrupt and short gearing makes for frantic going.
–Fun but not as fast as supersports bikes. |
|
Ever left you stranded? |
No problems so far. My last one did 9500 km and only 1 bolt fell off! |
|
How does it go on Club rides? |
Not too bad. It likes slower more winding roads than the open fast
runs. Fuel economy is about 5.5L/100km no matter what you do, so 250 km to a
tank. There is a little pocket under the seat and you can get quite a bit of
gear in a tailpack. |
|
How does it go on the track? |
Not been there yet. |
|
If you had to choose a 2nd bike
what would it be? |
A BMW tourer, probably an older R series that I would tinker with a
lot. Or a VFR. Or anything with a reasonable riding position and a fairing! |
Once a month we will
ask a member to describe their bike and what they think of it. It’s called….
