The crazy hailstorm on Saturday seemed to deter many riders from the Sunday ride. It started wet and cool in the morning but by the time we got to Euroa the sun was out, the roads dry and we were ‘cooking’ in our wet-weather gear.
Being a small group meant we could stop at more boutique cafés – which we did at Ruffy and Euroa. They offered a more interesting selection of food, but a little pricey, as if to justify the ‘exclusiveness’ of their café. The staff had a touch of arrogance and even annoyance if any one of us made a request which deviated from what they normally do; makes you appreciate the humble and friendly little bakeries and corner shops where we usually stop at on the rides.
Rob Langer carries a most relaxed composure at all times – quite deceptive really, particularly when he is the ride leader as you think his ride will reflect his demeanour – but don’t be fooled… his rides are usually around 500 km door to door and a constant brisk pace is kept at all times. Being a small group of five today, all of similar pace, meant no need for corner marking all day. So the ride was completed efficiently and home not too late. Well done Rob – a lovely Sunday ride for all.
