MSR  Itinerary                      April  2010

Sunday 4th      Grand Ridge Road (Gippsland)       (Easter Sunday)                       Ben Warden leading

10 am Berwick

The classic Mirboo North ride with loops within loops. A year later and we will still catch glimpses of the fire damaged areas around Boolarra South and the Grand Ridge Road. First stop Loch if you are chasing the ride, then lunch at Mirboo North. The Hallston loop offers the chance to skip 60 km of twisties and have a breather for 35 minutes or so before rejoining the main group. Three kilometres of dirt around Arawata. Ride not for the inexperienced but manageable with breaks. Expect around 410 km for the day.

Monday 5th     Eildon                                                                                                   Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Easter Monday and a public holiday sees us regroup for a ride up to Eildon. First stop Yea via Christmas Hills, St Andrews, Kinglake and Glenburn. Could be a smidge of dirt around Murrindindi. After morning tea we’ll head for Eildon via Molesworth, Alexandra and Skyline Road across Fraser National Park. I’m tempted to head down the Jamieson Road while the weather is still fine and the grip good. Gentle ride across the Black Spur to finish at the Healesville Bakery. Expect around 320 km for the day. Ride will not suit inexperienced riders; not recommended for first time Club riders.

Sunday 11th   Mt Buller                                                                                           Ron Johnston leading

9.30 am Yarra Glen

Note early start.  We’ll head across the Black Spur to Marysville, Alexandra and Yarck for our first break. Then on to Mansfield and Mt Buller for lunch. A smidge of gravel heading up but should be clear by the time we come through. Back to Mansfield and then Kinglake West  via Yea. Expect 380 km for the day.

Sunday 18th    Heathcote                                                                                           Dave Chisma leading

10 am Whittlesea

Leg 1: Whittlesea, Eden Park, Wallan, Darraweit Guim, Romsey, Lancefield, Woodend Bakery Leg 2: Woodend, Lancefield, Pyalong, Emu Flat, Redesdale, around Lake Eppalock to Heathcote (lunch). Leg 3: Seymour, Strath Creek, Flowerdale, Kinglake West, Whittlesea.   Expect around 370 km for the day.

Sunday 25th    Noojee                        (ANZAC Day)                                                                                 leader required

10 am Berwick

Dennis Lindemann was down to lead this one but is packing up and moving house on this weekend. Nevertheless, here is the proposed route:  Berwick, Beaconsfield Upper, Cockatoo, Packenham Upper, Powelltown and Noojee for morning tea followed by Moe for fuel and lunch. The ride continues south into Gippsland via Coalville to Mirboo North and Leongatha picking up the Warragul Korumburra Road to finish in Drouin. Expect around 310 km for the day with every possible type of road. As it states, a leader is required. The route is notional at this stage and can be changed at short notice as necessary.

May 2010

Sunday 2nd     Tooborac Trials Competition (free entry)                                         Geoff Shugg leading

10 am Whittlesea

We’ll head fairly directly to Tooborac stopping at Broadford for morning tea en-route via Flowerdale and Strath Creek. Then on to Pyalong and Tooborac where we’ll agree to meet 90 minutes later. This will give us ample time to be mesmerised by the brilliance and skill of trials riders. Though food is available, we have a “proper” lunch back in Mansfield before heading back to through Pyalong, Broadford and Strath Creek to finish at Kinglake West. Expect around 200 km for the day.
